Text from Pages 1 - 72 of the 1962 volume:

I TlTessaye to tfie cJracfuatiny ( ass of 1962 The orbital flight of Colonel John Glenn in February of this year has been eclipsed only by your graduation. Colonel Glenn faced the challenges of space and met them triumphantly. You are about to face the challenges of the future. Your success will depend upon how well you have prepared your- self for the changes to which you will inevitably be required to adjust and to the goals you have set for yourself. Remember the flight of Colonel John Glenn. Remember that it took the cooperative ef- forts of many individuals, continuous preparation, unselfish courage, and an outlook that has made ridiculous the advice of an earlier age which stated don't shoot for the moon. Francis G. Ciarfella To Mrs. Tofferi For your continous efforts to promote our class activities we, the class of 1962, dedicate the Banner to you. We will greatly miss you but your contri- butions will always be remembered. Dedication To Mr. Lucas We wish to express our graditude for your valu- able help during our last and most difficult year of high school. For your help and guidance, we, the class of 1962, dedicate this Banner to you. T rmcipafs Acfcfress fhe standards have been met; the goals accomplished. For this you have the right to pride and are deserving of praise. Your return will be in proportion to your effort and direction, as will be true of each challenge faced, large or small, as an individual or as a member of the human race. It is always a time of mixed feelings for a teacher to watch a class pass on to whatever may be. One cannot see, feel, hope along with others without responding with happi- ness and pride in this, their achievement. There is also a feeling of nostalgia at the passing of a close association. With the Class of 1962, I bid such a farewell, adding my strong confidence in your ability and faith in the quality of your purpose. Society needs your idealism, your strength, and your knowledge. It needs to have protection for those things which have proven of value for individual growth and group cooperation. It has scars that need to be healed, and there are defects that need to be eliminated. Change is continuous. It is up to you to give it direction and character. I, therefore charge you to think, using the capacity of judgment and the searching out of fact needed in the construction of truth. . . to respect your judgments, intelligently formed, and protect the judgments of others, letting neither strike down the otter except through honest con- version. . . to develop the attribute of a self-less love, realizing the responsibility we have one for the other. . . to be true to ourselves in evaluating our motives and acts, gaining self-respect that will give us the re- gard of others. faculty FIRST ROW: Mrs. Parker, Physical Ed.; Mrs. Tofferi, Mathematics; Mr. Thurber, Jr, High, V. In the past four years, we have worked hard, had our fun, and now accept our rank as adults. We hope to give back to society the greatness and potential that the faith and trust of our parents, teachers, and friends have built within us. For the underclassmen, we hope that our example will be considered honorable and worthy of being fol- lowed. Bruce Stryhas, President '62 Ji un or 7 espouse Members of the graduating class of 1962, in your four years at Black River, you have established a solid foundation for your future endeavors. As each of you steps into the challenging destinies of a new and different life, your success appears to be inevit- able. We, the class of 1963, sincerely hope that you will reach your goals and obtain true happiness. We have spent our first three years of high school in the friendly atmosphere you have created. Now, as you prepare to leave, we think of the many lessons you have taught us. Even as we shall never forget you, we shall likewise always remember them. Jean Edwards, his private secretary, enters to check out a few details on next week's convention. Little does Old Crash know that all his former classmates will meet at this convention. Some are aware that they are employed by a former classmate but most are not in direct contact but in some other branch of work for the auto plant. The day arrives and many of the delegates have checked into Tom Lake's hotel, and some of the ladies have made appointments with the hotel's beauty shop run by Sandra Sheehan, Wilma Van Guilder, and Karen Partanen. The medical staff with Stanley Blanchard as Medical Technician and Jeanne Dunnels, his registered nurse, are making sure that this will be a safe convention. Precautions have been taken in case of accidents. As the hundreds of delegates, among them the 1962 graduates of B. R. H. S., enter the hall, they are greeted by the reception committee, the head of which is Pat Tyrrell. Carol Stocker, file clerk, hands each the week's schedule and many classmates are surprised and de- lighted to recognize their old friends. They comment on the rooms' interiors, decorated by Verne De- vereaux. Blending with the decor are several of Caroline Brzoza's advertising posters for Amiracle cars. She has managed to successfully combine the two careers of marriage and art. Tom Eddy, head of the plant's sales staff, and Bill Frye, oil ty- coon, make a late entrance after surprising each other in the cafeteria run by Bob McNab. One of his waitresses is Ellen Lamere and the four catch up on some news before the convention. Meanwhile, the plant's advisor, Dennis McNulty; the chief engi- neer, Tad Tucker; and photographer, John Snarski, Jr. are in consul- tation about the evening's program. It is decided that the Children's Theater of Amiracle City, directed by Steph Rowe, pianist Sylvia Syria, and guitarist Earl Washburn will provide entertainment. Rich Myatt, public relations man, will act as emcee. J rophecu As they are leaving the conference room, Peg de Neergaard rushes up with a message from France which she, as interpreter for the com- pany, has translated. Jim Peplau is returning from company business in Germany. He's bringing an old classmate, Jim Moore, just out of the service, home with him. Back at the convention, Carol Bowers and Linda Buck, here with their husbands, have run into each other. Linda is the girls' basketball coach in her home city. Carol relates her experience on a trip she won for having a model home. Barb Butler is the teacher of Carol's second-grade daughter. After the first day's greetings, many delegates go to the Amiracle Theater, run by Irene Davis. Starring in the feature tonight is Ginny Janowski, who also endorses Amiracle products. Several company representatives from all over the country have gathered to discuss the points for and against unions in the Amiracle plants. Among them are Donald Lagro, an electrical technician; David Glidden, test driver for the new models; and Ed Smith, a vice president in his home plant. For the convention, Bruce Stryhas consented to take a few days off from his job as head of the state forest department to show and comment on old films of his high school basketball games. Trina Strong, now head nurse at the Amiracle Hospital, while on a tour of the Amiracle plant happens to see an old friend Don Van Guilder, now working as the tenth man in the left wing of the fourth floor of the assembly line. And that is how the 1962 graduates of B. R. H. S. got together again and renewed acquaintances, relived old memories, and caught up on the years past. At the end of the week, everyone was notified and a grand re-union was staged.
