MATHEMATICS Doug Sergeant flnstructorj Life is not a 'static process', why should education be so? To understand my philosophy of education, one must first be aware of my twofold definition of the term. First, I feel that education should help you become a more responsible person, a person who is able to recognize his responsibilities to propagate our society. In my teaching field, Mathematics, I am constantly seeking answers to various problem-situations whose solutions are arrived at by a sequential process. I feel mathematics should be taught for various sequences or patterns, which should be studied, in the hope, that the student will discover a process that will work for him when dealing with problem-situations in life. Once the onosphere fmindl has been trained to analytically solve problems, it will go through these processes automatically if allowed to do so. 20 John E. Bonebrake fAssistant Professor! I was brought up in Erick, Oklahoma, and received my B.S. degree at Southwestern State College at Weatherford, Oklahoma in 1963 with majors in both biology and chemistry. Ireceived an M.S. degree in 1967 from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale with a major in zoology and a minor in botany. My master's thesis was done in the area of herpetologyg this study has been accepted for publication in the JOURNAL OF MORPI-IOLOGY. I am presently teaching general biology and introduction to chemistry classes and working on the organization of laboratories, materials, and equipment for these courses.
