PHYSICAL EDUCATION William L. Kruse fAssociate Professorl I was awarded my BA. degree from the University of Iowa and my MA. degree from the University of Kentucky. I have been with the college since 1969, having taught on the junior high level for nine years, at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and Lees Junior College in Kentucky. I teach men and women's Physical Education, First Aid, I-Iealth, Golf, Track and Field, and Basketball. My other duties are head basketball coach and athletic director. This summer I expect to earn my Ph.D. from Indiana University. 1-K-eff X PSYCHOLOGY Curtis D. Hulteen fAssistant Professorj I am currently teaching what I feel is an innovation in the teaching field. It is a Psychology course in which students that have already shown proficiency in the General Psychology are working as proctors to students currently taking the course. The advantage of this type of course is that large groups of students can be handled at one time, yet individual attention can be given to each student. At Black Hawk East I've taught freshman English courses and American Litera- ture. Here, I've found unbounded opportunity for innovation in the classroom. And, especially through Yearbook and Cheerleader advisory duties, close personal contact with students: For me, it seems that such interaction eliminates the instructor-student communication gap, and serves to inspire intellectual curiosity-so essential to any learning process, and therefore to life itself. 5 F -3. QF HBR 0.8 SCCIAL SCIENCE Stephen R. Sams flnstructorj I received my B.A. degree from Illinois Wesleyan University and did my graduate work in History at the University of Iowa. I joined the staff in September 1970 after teaching one year at Bradford Unit District. At Black Hawk East I am the sponsor of the Young Democrats Club. Recently I became a member of the Illinois National Guard. SOCIAL SCIENCE Kenneth Maguire fAssistant Professorl I was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. With this past history I was a natural for a Social Science professor. So, in 1967 I joined Black Hawk East College as one of its original staff members. This year I have the honor of being the sponsor of the Booster Club and faculty representative to and President of the Arrowhead Ath- letic Conference. I also serve as Chairman of the B.H.E. Curriculum Committee and as the Vice Chairman of the Faculty. I was awarded my B.A. and M.A. from Eastern Kentucky State College.
