.pf sd 'f 5 ENGLISH Fred Stahl C Chairman of the Transfer Programsj I am the Chairman of the Transfer Programs and my dutie: are to coordinate courses and supervise the faculty members undei my program. I also review applications of new faculty with the provost. In addition I teach a Freshman Rhetoric course in whicl the student works at his ovsm pace.This course gives the instructo time to help with individual problems of students. My persona. philosophy of life can be summarized by a quote from Bertrand Russell: Brief and powerless is Man's life, on him and all his race the slow, sure doom falls pitiless and dark. Blind to good and evil reckless of destruction, omnipotent matter rolls on its relentless way, for Man, condemned today to lose his dearest, tomorrow himself to pass through the gate of darkness, it remains only tc cherish, ere yet the blow falls, the lofty thoughts that ennoble his little day, disdaining the coward terrors of the slave of Fate, to worship at the shrine that his own hands have builtg undismayed by the empire of chance, to preserve a mind free from the wanton tyranny that rules his outward life, proudly defiant of the irresist- ible forces that tolerate, for a moment, his knowledge and his condemnation, to sustain alone, a weary but unyielding Atlas, the world that his own ideas have fashioned despite the trampling march of unconscious power. In general Iam the most optimistic pessimist I know.

Bradbury flnstructorj In l968 I came to Black Hawk East after teaching at Dwight, Illinois and Delavan, Illinois high schools. This year I've served as both Drama Club and Warrior advisor. At Black Hawk East I've taught freshman English courses and American Litera- ture. I received my B.A. degree from Drake University and my M.S. degree from Illinois State University. iw .58 as ENGLISH Patricia Burgess flnstructorl A true full-time part-timer who has been with B.H.E. since its inception-this Wisconsin native feels our college has much to offer the community. Here, I've found unbounded opportunity for innovation in the classroom. And, especially through Yearbook and Cheerleader advisory duties, close personal contact with students: For me, it seems that such interaction eliminates the instructor-student communication gap, and serves to inspire intellectual curiosity-so essential to any learning process, and therefore to life itself.
