It was later perfected by J. A. C. Charles. It was a new con- cept in the world of flying. There is always room for beauty: memory for the judges, but accompanying soloists and ensembles A myriad of lovely blossoms may enclose, and leading the Pride of Bixby High as it performs at foot- Bur, whatsoe'er hath been, there still must be ball halftimes. Room for another rose. -Florence Earle Coates Finally, personality is perhaps the most important Her beauty is like that of an autumn sunset. She has a radiant glow about her. But in today's race for royalty's renown, beauty is only a part of being a queen. This generation considers qualities such as scholarship, poise, charm, personality, and talent as necessary for queenship as good looks. Scholastic ability plays a major role in the life of the high school queen. The dumb blonde has given way to the brainy beauty, and poise and charm are geared to in- telligent behavior as well as cool good looks. These ad- mired characteristics practically guarantee a girl who has them the key to a future happiness because they manifest an inward competence and security and a genuine interest in others. Talent is a blessing. The contemporary queen recognizes her talent and uses it to the fullest extent . . . not only singing in competition for a crown, but leading a church youth choir or adding a good voice to the school chorus . . . not only playing the piano or twirling a baton aspect of being a queen. The girl that has a great per- sonality has collected all the other traits - poise, charm, scholarship, talent - and has transformed them into a un- ique individual who is gracious, confident, attractive, and useful to her home. school, and community. Being honored as a school queen involves hard work - selecting materials and patterns, sewing, giving up valuable time to decorate and stuff backboards, and fighting the nerves that threaten to erupt at any time if not held tightly in check. But the problems are worth it. They must be, because there is no shortage of girls who are rac- ing for the glory that is reflected in the gold of a trophy or the blush of a rose.
