The Student Union uses about four pounds of coffee daily. The nation experienced two flops during the school year. First was the rise of coffee prices. Downtown coffee shops raised their prices to 30 cents a cup, but Student Union prices faithfully remained 15 cents. Second, the government launched a mass innoculation against Swine Flu. which was dis- continued because of isolated cases of paralysis. Coffee prices doubled in less than two months. The Shot gun.” Karen Nelson was one of the hundreds of students innoculated at the Student Union.

Debates: Jimmy vs. Gerry Jimmy Carter makes numerous campaign promices on national TV. President Ford retaliates by defending his record. Students packed into the Stu- dent Union lounge to watch the historical presidential election debates on national television in October. The major issues dis- cussed by President Ford and Jimmy Carter were foriegn af- fairs, domestic issues and miscellaneous topics. The W-W-Winter of '77 Although it was sunny, students avoided going outdoors. Grim. That was the word used to describe the winter of ’77.” The wind-chill factor dipped to 80 below zero, making this the coldest winter in history. Students reportedly donned printed, insulated underwear to ward off the blustery cold, and packed snow-mobile suits in their cars for emergencies. Emergencies”: stalled on 1-94 homeward bound on Friday; fishtailing up the hill to Schafer Heights. Grim. Air Force parkas were almost a necessity to survive the cold. Sub-zero temperatures forced students to take shortcuts.
