Student enrollment could be affected by out of state students. More and more applicants from other states are being received. Primarily from the East where there are more crowed conditions. Alot of them want to come out here to this country to go to school. They like it here. Those who get out here stay. They want to get away from big cities and I don't blame them. You at least have space to walk. When the idea of the two year college was started it was thought that the only way to be successful was to have a college degree. We have found this is not true. We need someone to climb light poles and fix telephones. Just because I don't want to do it doesn't mean that someone else doesn't. They are just as important as someone else in our soceity. Ithink that is why I have liked the two year or community college. We try to do three things; further adult educatio take care of the students that want to transfer to another college and take care of the the vocational students that want to go into the world of work. 6. J. C. is where it's at. Bismarck Junior College has been the college with a future since its beginning, in 1939, when it was located on the third floor of the old Bismarck High School building. It has continually expanded its capacity as an institute of higher learning. With the passing of the new bond issue it will continue to expand. The new Vocational Center will contain the vocational courses now on Front Street and those offered here at Schafer Heights. It is the way they are all going now. The Junior Colleges are gaining momentum and the four year colleges are having trouble keepina up. You can see that right in Worth Dakota. Minot State dropped 250 students. The Universities both went down. Dickinson lost last year and this year they have a practically empty dorm. Valley City went down. Wahpeton held the same because that is a two year college. B. J. C. stayed the same also. Lake Region held and so did Williston. All Junior college enrollment stayed while all other dropped. Part is due to the fact that they are primarily a teacher training institution and the teacher market went soft. Teachers in most areas are a dime a dozen. The new Student Center will have facilities for a new Bookstore, dining room, snack bar and the Mystics room where there will be short orders and game rooms. We will have the new Vocational Center, the new dorm and new Student Center then we will be in pretty good shape . The two year college is the newest look in higher education. Throughout the Nation the two year colleges have been terrific. One out of every three freshmen this fall is in a two year college.
