They also lead at BJC’s infre- quent pep rallies. The peppy co-eds are in charge of Pep Club, which didn’t materialize this year. So, all those at- tending games and cheering became Pep Club. The leggy co-eds performed during half time at basketball games and made special appearances. In addi- tion to this, they helped with dancing in the spring musical production of “The Music Man. I mean, what’s a college without football and Homecoming?” “The greatest Homecom- ing in nine years!” Such were student comments after BJC came out of hiberna- tion this fall and opened football season, bringing with it. Homecoming! Among the Oct. 2 activities, was an Alum- ni Mixer, held at Holiday Inn, and a dance to the music of WASCANA, a sixman Canadian band, with a wild brass section! The Homecoming victory over Brandon was the third win in four games for the Mystics. Even though playing under unfa- miliar Canadian rules, BJC trounced Brandon thoroughly. The outcome of the game saw BJC victorious 20-0! A glorious end to a great occassion, but the beginning of many football seasons and Homecom- ings to come! 29 -« mu 30 31 FROM TOP LEFT, CLOCKWISE: Steve Bratlein, choir: Bob Clooten, Collegiate Players; Rene Constantine. To top off the night, Lee Toman and Yvonne Moilanen were crowned King and Queen. Friday evening students were entertained by the sounds of Podipto. Those involved found Shaw’s subtle humor and deep philoso- phy a challenge to get across to the au- dience. Done in period costumes, the production had a colorful flair. Mrs. Jane Gray Stewart directed the play. During the long weeks of rehearsal, the fifteen cast members found themselves melding into one close family with the responsibility to each other to give “Major Barbara” the unity it deserved. General consensus? Most students felt the acting was good but the play was too wordy. 41 LEFT: Mr. Mike Me Cormack, tech, director. Technical work was directed by Mr. Mike Me Cormack. Lighting was taken over by some of the electrical and line crew students. Under the new care, BJC’s lighting system got a long needed renovation. 44 LEFT: Bev Brecht, set design. TOP: Mrs. Jane Gray Stewart, director. BOTTOM: Ken Miller, lights. Jay-cee-an staff feels unloved This book is the result of long tor- tuous months of long tortuous days and nights spent by the Jay-Cee-An staff. Evidentally, believing that safety doesn’t lie in numbers, hoardes of would-be journalists copped out after the first meeting. Five, (including 2 photographers. Bob Clooten and Brian Bowman) with perserverence and soon-to-be frazzled nerves were left to compile the book. Our motto: The devil made me join this staff. 66 67 Guthrie brings dramatic thrills The Guthrie Theatre Company production of “Fables Here and Then,” the third Vis- iting Scholar Lecture, was an outstanding success. During the scheduled two nights performances the six cavorting and acro- batic actors and actresses entertained their capacity audiences with such brilliant pre- cision that the company was held over for one more show. The workshop, encom- passing theatrical games, mime and stage fighting was also well attended and very much enjoyed. “Fables Here and Then” consisted of 11 fantasy folk tales. Brilliant continuity was maintained during the versatile range of stories by encompassing a brief parrot-like style with a minimum of stage details. TOP LEFT: Lance becomes a purple chair. It is appro- priate that this part of the culture of the “Land of the Dakotas” should be re- flected in the student body of NJC. Starting with a fledgling group of 14 members, BJC is one of the 100 colleges that make up the National Intercolle- giate Rodeo Association. The rules and eligibility requirements of this organi- zation are as strict or more strict than those that govern any other phase of intercollegiate activity. Members exhibit vitality, spirit Cloverleaf barrel racing, goat tying and break away roping are the events in which the girls may compete. The boys’ events include calf roping, ribbon rop- ing, bulldogging, bareback bronc rid- ing, saddle bronc riding and bull or steer riding. Already Bismarck has sent its contest- ants to two area rodeos, at Dickinson State and NDSU. With the start of spring rodeo season it looks like rodeo will be a going concern at BJC. Art Club appeals to students who dig creativity Art Club tackled their big annual pro- ject of decorating the campus corridors for Christmas. This year they made stained glass windows for the D.P. room, hangings for the hall light fix- tures and decorated all the Christmas trees. Students needn't be budding Michelan- gelo’s to join. All that’s necessary is a creative desire, willingness to work and a desire to have a lot of fun! 75 76 3 Clubs offer assistance to community, campus Two women’s service organizations and one men’s exist on campus. Golden Z, sponsored by Zonta Club, and K-dettes are the women’s organizations. Circle K caters to the masculine set. Both Circle K and K-dettes are affiliated with Kiwanis Club. The 3 groups, besides participating in col- lege events, strive to serve the community. Golden Z tutored at SIS and donated to Open Your Heart. Circle K enforces park- ing regulations at BJC. K-dettes, due to very low membership, functioned with Circle K this year. The spirit of the 3 clubs? One Golden Z member summed it all up: It’s proving you can do something. For once you’re setting an example.” TOP LEFT: Bob Stenehjem. Circle K. CENTER: Pat Aberle Circle K cheering section. TOP RIGHT: Mr. Mike Me Cormack, Circle K. BOT- TOM LEFT: Fay Pitzer, Circle K. It encourages free enterprise and economic awareness through indi- vidual instruction, studies in marketing projects, exposure to successful business leaders and by practical experience in business establishments. DECA believes in competition and of- fers awards and recognition to student members for outstanding accomplish- ment. With support. DECA will contin- ue to develop future leaders for market- ing and distribution. 80 TOP: DECA Officers. BOTTOM: Club members. m «T To those of us who know and love her, Mrs. Gannon is as fresh and sweet as the first flower of Spring . . . Witty and warm, she has the rare ability to see beauty in every breath of life. We are thankful for the twenty-two years she has given us. If the success of a person’s life might be measured in terms of the love and laughter that surrounds it, we can all agree that Mrs. Gannon must be one of the greatest successes of all times. 83 Every day is moving day at Bismarck Junior College! We have adopted the slogan, “The College with a Future”, and therefore cannot remain in one place too long. We must plan new buildings, we must evaluate our educational processes, we must adopt new ideas, and above all be sensitive to our students. We must however at times look back. Where did we come from? This book at- tempts to record the activities for at least one year of this motion. I want to con- gratulate the staff through whose effort this book is possible.
