The Mystician, the college newspaper, published monthly, is produced by those enrolled in the three journalism classes. These students also comprise the nucleus of the Press Club, organized in the fall of 1959 by the instructor, W. W. Garver. Monthly socials are held under the direction of Art Leno, club president. The same students comprise the staff of the Spectator, a mimeographed featurette issued monthly to augment the news and features of the Mystician. This is the first year for this new publication. Hard at work is Dennis Gartner, editor. STUDENT COUNCIL Leading the Student Council are Don Brandt, Vice-President; Marcia Swenson, Secretary-Treasurer; and Dick Olson, President, Once weekly, the Student Council meets as the one governing body linking all school or- ganizations. SUCH A Dick Karlgaard Head Coach The 1959 BJC Football team, under Dick Karlgaard, had the best record in the history of the school with a 3-2 record. After losing two games by one point each, the Mystics came back with a strong finish to win the final three games. One of the big factors in the fine season enjoyed by the BJC eleven was the addition of Dick Tschider to the coaching staff. Tschider coached the rugged line and the tight defensive unit. IN ACTION Mohler scoring Although the Mystics got off to a slow start this year, they improved as the season progressed. Ham- pered by their lack of height and experience, the locals could not cope with some of the taller and more experi- enced teams in the North Dakota Intercollegiate Confer- ence. Had the season been longer, the Mystics would have made a much better showing. They were just be- ginning to display their fine capabilities as the season closed. Considering the fact that they are competing with four year colleges in this conference, the Mystics deserve a great deal of recognition for the fine job they have done.
