THE JAY-CEE-AN Published by the Students of BISMARCK JUNIOR COLLEGE Bismarck, North Dakota —2— IN MEMORIAM GEORGE «ILL 1884- 1955 George Will, business man, community builder, scholar, and gentleman, was a descendant of colonial ancestors who founded our nation. He and his parents were among those pioneers who helped found our state on the endur- ing patterns which exemplify the best of American traditions. George Will took a special interest in the history of the Indian, the fur trader and explorer, and the pioneer. He made a life-long study of the ag- ricultural sciences that were of benefit to those who lived in the Upper-Mis- souri region. He promoted schools, libraries, and engaged in scientific and historical research. Even his close friends did not always realize the recognition he received nationally for his achievements. He loved North Dakota and took delight in camping and tramping over the prairies and along the historic Missouri River. He loved his home, and it was there he would be found in the evenings--unless he was attending a civic meeting--writing, reading in his excellent library, or engaged in good con- versation with his family and friends. He was modest, generous, and kindly, and his great purpose in life seemed to be that of service for others. It is to the memory of George Will that we dedicate the Jay-Cee-An. The Freedom Shrine was presented to Bismarck Junior College by Harry Vadnie on behalf of the Exchange Club of Bismarck and was accepted for the college by Ralph Werner. It was carried to the stage by the Boy Scouts for the presentation. General W. H. Arnold, Commander of the Fifth Army, gave the main address . The Junior College Chorus sang and the band played for the pro- gram . SIDNEY J. LEE Dean THROUGH THEIR T. E. SIMLE Superintendent of Schools RALPH WERNER Business Manager ADMINISTRATION —7— MRS. The sher- iff and his deputies, the Lettermen's Club in dis- guise, post rigid regula- tions beforehand which the student body must follow. Violators are punished with an egg down their back, shaving cream in their hair, or are sentenced to do time in the barbed wire jail. The hoboes then proceed to parade through Bis- marck and Mandan-- running, singing, and lighting smoke bombs in the middle of the street. After the barbeque held on the college campus, a snake dance leads the tattered subjects to the foot- ball field for the big game at which the King and Queen are crowned at half time.
