This first step at Bismarck equips them with a positive self-image, good attitude, academic excellence, and strong relationships. Their interpersonal relationships are characterized by couresty, understanding, and a special sensitivity for one another. These relationships form a special bond and lasting friendships. The students make their way along the thousand mile journey, studying hard, being involved, and having fun, but as seniors they look toward their life after B.H.S. And, no matter how far they travel after graduation, there will always be a place where people will remember them!! B.H.S. Bismarck High School -p e 3 Bismarck, Arkansas Step-by-Step Theme Step-by-Step Dedication We, the Yesteryears staff, proudly dedicate the 1986-87yearbook to Mrs. Shelba Tankersley and Mr. Hubert “Coach” O’Neal. Mrs. Tankersley has been employed at Bismarck for several years. She has served as both an elementary teacher and an elementary guidance counselor. She is a graduate of Bismarck and Henderson State University. Mr. O'Neal has been at Bismarck for thirteen years where he has served as basketball coach and a teacher of math, physics, and chemistry. He also is a graduate of Bismarck and Henderson State University. We are proud to dedicate this yearbook to two very nice people. They will be missed, and we wish them lots of luck! The Yearbook Staff 6 Dedication In Memoriam Erica Lea Pyle Erica Lea Pyle, 7 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Pyle, died March 18 in the Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock. She was born April 27,1979. She was a second grade student in the Gifted and Talented Class, member of Brownie Troop 553, and a Baptist. She was very active in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and was featured in a number of commercials and activities at the Children’s Hospital. Erica won the first grade spelling bee and participated in the County Spelling Bee. April 27, 1979 March 18, 1987 Erica There will always be a place in my heart. There will always be hope. There will always be love. There will be peace. There will be good times and bad. There will be happy and sad. But you could light a thousand hearts with your kindness and a smile. You will never be forgotten. You will always be there. You will be strong. The Lord made you special in your own way. For your strength, courage, and your understanding in everything. I shall not miss you, because you are always there. You were proud to be you, And we can remember the good times you taught us. H e know not why best; we accept it anyway. For the Lord knows best. We shall not question Him. Students moved into new buildings. Teachers and programs were added. The schools met the current state standards at the elementary and secondary levels. It was a year of great progress. 1986-87 was the best school year I have had in my career. I ha ve enjoyed being in Bismarck more than any place I have lived. I am proud of the schools. I am looking forward to next year being another great year. Whatisa teacher? A teacher is many things... She comes in all sizes and temperaments. In her everyday work week she’s diplomat ■.. politician ... fight referee .. . pediatrician . .. practical nurse ... and quiz program conductor ... She has little children in her eyes ... A teacher dispenses magic, sells futures ... Dreams are her stock in trade ... She’s the future of the world with a ruler in her hand ... a flick of chalk dust on her eyelid ... progress with a pencil behind her ear ... underpaid ... overworked... unappreciated at times... She gains her pay in secret satisfaction. Secretly she will admit, “I have the greatest job of all... ’’And she has because she holds the history of the world in the palm of her hand. She’s a teacher!
