The wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Di was magnificent. The attempted assassination of President Reagan shocked the world, and the first space shuttle, the Columbia, was launched. John Lennon and Anwar Sadat were shot by assassins. Luke and Laura, stars of General Hospital, finally made it to the altar, and Laura then disappeared. But it happened ... in the outside world. IT WAS UNREAL. The title of District Runner-up was bestowed upon the Junior Football team when Bauxite defeated them 12-6. The defeat of the senior boys football team by Fountain Lake and the senior boys basketball team’s overtime defeat to Valley Springs in State A finals in Harrison were heartbreaking experiences to everyone. The honors the speech class brought back from the speech tournaments made everyone proud. The Science Fair winners went on to higher competition and did well with their entries, and Charity took her history essay to Washington, D. C. But it happened ... inside our world. 3 Teachers tell us it won’t be the same in the real world. Friends say it’s all going to change when we get out in the real world. And we tell ourselves the same things. For twelve years we are insulated. We are sheltered by our family, teachers, friends, and community. Our world consists of Friday night ballgames, standing in line to eat lunch in the cafeteria, and arranging our studies around Prime TV. We hope to have captured many memories for you in this 1982 yearbook by showing the happy, sad, and sometimes difficult times. These years may prove to be the best years of our lives. So many of the things that happened this year seemed unreal. But whether they occurred on campus, elsewhere in the U. S. or on a different continent, they were an undeniable part of reality. Our view remained the view from within. We would like to thank the following people: all of the yearbook staff, who helped put these memories together; The Andy Hudson Studios; Mr. Whitley, who gave us a dark room to develop our own film; Ken and Steve, who developed our film; our advertisers, who helped make the publishing of the book possible; and a special thanks to Mrs. Thornton, our sponsor, who has been the greatest friend and a most understanding advisor. May the memories we leave today be priceless treasures for you tomorrow. The Editors mWALS WORTH PUBLISHING COM PA N Y MARCELINK MlftNOlRJ II 8 A
