CAMPUS CHANGES Graduates of a few years back would not recognize the new B.H.S.! The football field that has been used for years is going to be ‘put out to pasture’ soon. A new field is in the process of being constructed behind the gym. Remember the old lunchroom and home economics building? It has been totally remodeled and is now in use as rooms for two kindergarten classes and several special education classes. With the additions of kindergarten, remedial reading, and remedial math, special education courses, and speech therapy instruction, the old new building has become a very useful part of B.H.S. From see-through walls and sawdust to miniature chairs and people to occupy them . . . This patch of grass will soon be the new football field. It will soon be used by the senior, junior, and pee wee teams. 6

Mrs. Sharp’s home economics building has been improved bit by bit. This year cabinets were added for storage and a room was closed off for changing clothes. The organizations in the school, notably Student Council. In cooperation with the Soil Conservation Service, are beginning plans for an outdoor classroom. This classroom will be utilized by all grades as a means for studying nature, Shakesperean plays, or just getting outside on a pretty day. One can easily see that all of these many changes have added to the efficiency and attractiveness of Bismarck School. The cabinets allow more space for moving and the new room gives privacy for sewing students to try on their creations! This simple, beautiful wooded area will hopefully be converted to a place of studying and experiencing nature on a more personal level. The plans are for a Clearwater pond, a seating area, a podium for speaking, and all species of plants that grow in the area. 7
