Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans—born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage--and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today at home and around the world. -JOHN F. Gray - Seniors Terry and Jerry Harper Junior High Ronnie and Donnie Lambert Sixth Grade Aren’t We Dudes? Sherry and Jerry Yarbrough Kid Stuff! Fourth Grade 'Pxe eette ' PCay 7t Squint Se Uo 4, ‘P'le ettt Tf ‘Soya 4CCowecC’ Andrew Jackson Monument Arkansas Monument ,mu Vicksburg National Cemetary A Senior Seal St. Louis Cathedral Fresh as a Daisy Dear Yearbook, Saturday morning, May 2, 24 Senior girls, 4 Senior boys (old enough to leave their mothers), Mr. and Mrs. Henderson, Mrs. Westlake and the bus left for Baton Rouge. Husbands, parents and other admirers bade us farewell. Louisiana welcomed us with food, lodging, and fun - but we were so tired! Brenda and Ovita tested the water to see if it was wet. Sunday, we went to New Orleans to view St. Louis Cathedral, Bourbon Street, the French Quarters - and to eat. Fruits are luscious. Open markets are eye-catchers. Flower gardens and parks are works of art. Was it here at Pat O'Brien's that Mrs. Westlake picked up a curio in the shape of a cocktail glass? Monday we shopped at Gulfport. The Alamo Plaza Courts are neat - overlooking the beautiful Gulf of Mexico - with swimming pool, playground, and TV lounge. We side-tripped to Biloxi and you should have seen Bettnie startle everyone by going down the gutter of a 25-lane bowling alley, to retrieve her ball. Back to Gulfport tonight and out on the Harbor Queen for a cruise. I'd like to buy a part of Marineland for Miss Harper - she'd love the dolphins and the seals. Tuesday a picnic lunch was eaten at Jackson. Then we took off for the zoo. .Tommy performed for the monkeys and they returned the favor by clapping their hands and dancing. We saw the Capitol, too. Wednesday morning the Civil War battlegrounds were visited at Vicksburg - state monuments, statues - so many things to see in the National Cemetery. In the Illinois Monument the echoes were astounding. We tried them out! A fireboat (largest in the world) near the wharf along the Mississippi River had the loudest blast for a whistle. A man blew it and .we jumped a foot high. The boat can pump 10, 500 gallons of water per minute. Funny things happen on trips. You should see Trecia asleep on the bus! No card playing by anyone, thank goodness. Ovita rode the roller coaster 4 times straight - yelling like crazy from the top. Gary must have told Travis that he wouldn't let Sue S. get lonesome. Don and Donna let Ovita and Tommy keep them cheerful. Paula called the boys at 2 p. m. to play penny ante. Danny approved, but Mr. H. had other ideas. Linda C. and Paula bought gray hair spray and black hats and were ultra-sophisticated until water began to fall, and spray and mascara created a weird effect. That odor you probably will notice for some time to come will likely be the My Sin perfume that Danny bought for Joyce. Shelba, Sandra, and Wanda were a little homesick, I'm sure, but it didn’t show, and they had a wonderful time. We hope next year’s Seniors will have a bus with a ladies’ lounge. Trecia and Ovita declare that there is a terrific shortage of such accommodations in cities. The sponsors had a scrumptious time - and isn't it nice that they went? The trip was grand. Tell the Juniors thanks for the Welcome Home sign.
