Even after this defeat the Demons seemed to pick up and finished the season with a 4-3 record. The team was well represented on the All-State teams, and deserving players received the honors. Dick Karlgaard, stellar Demon end, won a berth on the coaches' first All-State team. Others receiving recognition on the All-State teams were Dirck Schneider, tackle 3 Dick Brandes, guardg Vince Fenelon, centerg Tom Kaiser, Doug Dunahay, Dick Stee and Dick Patchen, backs. These received honorable mention. C. T. Denton again in his excellent style coached this year's team. As usual he did a fine job of coaching and was equally concerned with each member of the team. The Demons rolled up a total of 677 points to their opponents' 576. During the season, the Demons were beaten twice by their traditional intra-city rivals, St. Mary'sg but the Demons retaliated in the play-offs by returning the defeat when they downed St. Mary's 30-27. This defeat put St. Mary's out of the State Tournament and helped to put Bismarck in. Marshall Murdoch has produced some mighty fine teams since he took over the reins of the Demons' basketball squad in 1943, and as the Prairie Breezes goes to press before the State Tournament is convened, we believe that the Demons will go far in the Tourney as they are definitely of Tournament caliber. Dick Johnson was student manager for the Demons. DENTON Due to the fact that publication deadlines do not permit us to have 1946's track pictures, the Prairie Breezes must show last year's track lettermen still in school this year. The 1945 track squad had the satisfaction and honor of bringing the State Championship to BHS which they copped at the State Track Meet at Valley City. Track probably does not excite as much enthusiasm among the student body as foot- ball and basketball do, but this branch of athletics has been loyally supported and is gaining a larger place in the BHS sports World each year. Verne Linzbach, who is not pictured, attributed greatly to the success of the track team by winning first place in the mile at the State Track Meet. In conjunction with the track and field meet, the State Championship in tennis doubles was taken by Jim Grabow and Doug Dunahay. The State Championship in the singles event was taken by Jim Grabow.
