T Soft ball was introduced into the Bismarck High School this year on Thursday, September 10, when the .bcys'reported to the sort ball diamond for their first practice. Mo- :Lean3 Murphy, Mccutcheon and Tin- csley were the reserves. ibn ',.W. the 218th day .ot September we had, our first soft ball game, iwhtch was at home, with Elvine. ipii hreko went down in defeat 'in lthis game, however.' Bismarck was fe!! with an early lead of one run fend soon increased that lead to Qtwo runs, but in the latter in- hinge, Elvins broke loose and went on to win the game. It was eaeverydwell-fought battle on the parts of both teams. The' final score was 6 te 3. - lThe1.secondh game of the season for the Indians came on the 25th of September fwhen they journeyed to Flat, River. Flat River was apreaictea to have the best pitchs er in the county, John Henson. iylat ,River .started off in the gthlrd inning with a one-run lead. .In the 5th inning, however,'Bise march came into the picture and :scored one, run to tie the game up., Flat River failed to score bln their half of the 5th and Bis- fmarck took advantage of this op- fpereuniuy and ,pushed across 4 ,runs in the top half of the 6th. ,This was done ,hy a home run by 'Bill Masters with the bases load- 'ed.p Flat River scored one run in fthe last half of the 6th, In the first half or the 7th, Bismarck pushed across one more run which made the score read 6 to 2. Flat River tailed to score in their half of the 7th, so Bismarck won IALL w by the score of 6 to 2. Paul Williams did a great Jeb in this game and showed Henson up in ev- ery part of pitching. T The third game of the year for the Indians was on the second day cf October. They went to Bonne Terre to play the 'Bull Dogs.' The Indians had trouble in the early innings and were behind as the late innings rolled -around and had no chance to catch up, although they tried. After 5 ine nings had been played, the Bile marck boys found themselves be- hind 12 to 2. They -made a des- perate .attempt to catch up as they scored 6 runs in their next two times at bat while holding Bonne Terre to 2 runs. In 'this two-inning rally Bismarck drove the starting Bonne Terre ,pitcher from the mound. .The leader of the Bismarck attack in this game was Alvin Edwards' who had a home run and three other hits out of his four trips to the plate. ' This was all or the scheduled games for our soft ball team, but the Elvins soft ball ,tournament started the following week. The tournament began on Monday night and lasted through .Friday night with the exception. of Thursday night, which 'was left open in case of rain on one of the previ- ous nights. . TOURNAMENT T n The first game of the tourhament was played between Elvins and Leadwood. The Elvins team won by the score of 8 to 1. The second game of the evening, which was also an uneven game, was ,played between Flat River and Frankclayi Flat River won by the score of 21 to 0. The third game of the evening was played between Bonne Terre and Farmington, which was won by Bonne Terre 12 to 5.
