mtrnmrwr HE Switzerland of America' -vvlth what expectancy we leaned out of the windows of tie Q' Lehigh Valley Limited COh veryj ever watchful for the first view of the towering snow capped 67 Q mountains so glowingly depicted 1n the catalogue of the Mountain School for Xoung Ladies I ' Bishopthorpe Manor At last one of the future inmates of the school, since known as Angel Face timidly asked the con ductor How much longer will it be until we reach the mountain district? The burly one stopped in his rolling gait down the aisle steadied himself against a rickety seat scratched his head and said These here was as much mountains as you will see in Pennsylvania Our eyes wandered sorrowfully to the hills without low bare and un1nv1t1ng we groaned Oh cheer up girls consoled one of our companions There IS still ever so much in store for us Have you forgotten about the good tinies we re going to have the spacious grounds the tennis court ' the park the forest the rural highways and all the other allur ing things at B1shopthorpeP Sous Beslem growled the conductor in the forward car Samezisend same at this end said the burly one as we gathered our things together eager to reach our destination r There was much indeed in store for us more than we had so fondly anticipated School o-pened on October first on the night of which a reception was given tothe new ,girls by the old The faculty recital took place October sixth in which Miss Brown the directress of music and Miss Hilliard had the leading parts. On October eighth a large number of candidates reported for' basket ball practice. A boy and girl party was given one evening later in October and the cosy corner was decidedly the hit of the evening next to the boys A V I The whole school attended a reception given 1n honor of the girls by Mrs Van Fossen at Leonard Hall on October twenty-ninth and it was there that they caught their first glimpse of real live Lehigh stu- dents They arrived home again in time to decorate the tables in festive Hallow e en fashion for dinner that evening after which various games suitable to the occasion took place in the gymnasium. A week from the following Saturday an elaborate masquerade ball was given in the Social ,Hall This event was suc- ceeded by a niusicale Given by Miss Brown's pupils, which took place on November seventeenth and was evidently much appreciated by the Girls who were quite unable to restrain their exclamations of delight dur- ing the performance. , if A
