Palana maps our the slralegy during a lime our. 44 Although the Tigers muddled through a mediocre sea- son of 9 wins and 9 losses. their hustle and spirit was to be commended. Being a team composed of mostly Sopho- mores and Juniors. they lacked the necessary experience to cope with some of the other seasoned teams. Often they were faced with a discouraging height problem where each man on the team would be out sized by his opponent, but they fought this with speed, hustle and drive. The team was molded around Captain John Mann. a senior All-Catholic guard. The smallest man on the team. what John lacked in size. he made up for with speed. drive and all around ball handling. He averaged l6.0 points a game to lead the Tiger's offensive etTorts. Coach Mel Palano also unveiled quite a few promising prospects. Dan Donovan. a junior. averaged 8 points a game. led the team in rebounds with 135 and had the best field goal percentagef42 j. Jim Malinowski. a big. strong Junior with a good eye. won many a close ball game with his jump shot elTective from all points. He will be heavily counted on next year. Mike Kinney. Jim Bevilacqua.
