The aim ofthe Scholarship Club is a unique one but at the same time a very important one. lt is the only club in the school that has as its purpose a purely scholastic reason for existence, since it is aimed primarily at prepar- ing the student to compete in competitive scholarship tests. This year the Club, under the direction of our Principal Fr. Timothy and assisted by Fr. Joel, began to prepare the seniors in their Junior year. The extra time and hard work that the members put into this club paid ofT for them and for the school as six seniors won full time Regent Scholarships and four others have part time ones. Six other scholarships have been awarded to our seniors for their showing in various competitive exams. .li Scholarship club snapped in pensive mood during New York Starr' Rl'gl'l11.Y Scholarship test. David Reddy. an avid chess player himself, who has helped the members master the game of chess. Each Wednesday, with coach L'Fr. David the club ensues in practice games to polish off the rough edges. The club after a succession of second and third place finishes in past years bounced back this year with an undefeated season and took the Queen City Chess League crown. Their victories were impressive ones in many cases and they deserve all the praise that comes their way. The Chess Club is governed by a capable statT of olhcers: Fran Wrenn.
