A The Tirnon High Fours without coxie vie against two other area high schools in league competition. Last year the Timon crew got off to a good start qualifying for the American Schoolboy Regatta held in Philadelphia. ln the actual race 'l'imon's ,Iunior Four finished second only one tenth of a second off the pace. The crew team then traveled to Canada for the Canadian Schoolboy Regatta where four out of five Timon crews qualified. The four with coxswain and the straight four finished first in other divisions. Timonls heavy eight and the 145 pound , eight finished a close second. ln these races Timon gained national recognition for their efforts. . - ,F Q ag 5 .2?'5sff-ffff: A M M YP-5' 15? X :L Timuns 145 pound eights with coxswain is pic- tured here working out at the Black Rock Canal. Back in Buffalo the 'l'imon crew picked up All-Catholic and All- lligh honors. All in all the year could be termed successful. Out of six possible trophies 'l'imon collected four, and out of twelve entries 'l'im0n finished first six times. Part of the praise for their success must go to co-captains Frank Marchese and Ted Urban. who drove the team hard through the entire campaign. Moderator, Fr. The Timon Tennis team, in its second year of league competition, completed the campaign with a won 4, lost 8 record. Although the Tigers got oll' to a fine start by winning three of their four matches, their downfall came at the hands of St. Joe's. Besides losing two matches to St. ,loe,s, Canisius and Duffy also swept two apiece from the Netters. 'l'imon victories were over Notre Dame, two games, and a match apiece over Baker-Victory and Fallon. Pete Stapell won tive of his 12 sets for the campaign while Joe Tanzella won 5 of ll sets in singles competition. The doubles team was responsible for much of the Timon success, gaining the verdict in 9 out of 12 matches.
