They came from distant and protected countries over plains and mountains to the very source of knowledge and un- derstanding. Like the Magi we, four years ago, left a sheltered grammar school class and embarked on a hard and long journey. Bishop Ryan High School became for us the road to knowledge and understanding. XY'e traveled far School. In our Religion classes we stood on the shores of Galilee and learned the deeper meanings of Christ's teachings while super-sonic jets zoomed overhead. As an atomic-powered sub' encircled the globe underwater, we, in our laboratories, studied the progressively harder principles of science. ln our Social Science classes we anlied the fundamental truths while '1 neva 1 jp jjj' , physically and memaiy, during the past four years at this Catholic High .wr iii ,ml concept of freedom traveled tliel length and breadth of our country. Vile sped from ancient history to current affairs and saw many of these events which are now historic. Sometimes we traveled at break-neck speed, and at other times we slowly plodded along. In all of our travels we realized that, through the grace of God, we were steadily progressing in our studies, always mindful of the Hand of God on every road and in everything. Our travel during the PHSI four years at Bishop Ryan High School, was indeed an unforgetable and enjoyable experience. XY'e therefore, select Travelers as the theme for our Ryanlight 1957. june of 1957 however, will not bring our traveling to an end. Our sincere wish and prayer is that we, the members of the Class of 1957, will travel still further in chosen fields, .always cognizant of aid from Our Heavenly Lord in our constant effort to acquire more knowledge and understanding for our own benefit and for our fellowmen. 1' K . ll aa .a stroma - . .... --,.,.,IT31 ,fv- OP Q.. r R in. e be ff e '? By active participation, its members have not only increased their knowledge of photography, but their interest in a very useful hobby also has been aroused. A school photographer is chosen from the club, who is usually a Senior or one who is interested in making photography his future career. One of his main duties is to take pictures of various school ac- tivities during the year, which are of particular in- terest for the yearbook. Here we experience great scien- tihc, historical, educational and sporting events in all parts of the universe and in all times. A comfortable chair, pleasant surroundings and a book from the shelves of Bishop Ryan Library are an unbeatable combination. ln the peace and quiet of the well-appointed room we cultivated the resources of our library at Ryan. Although unpublicized the Ryanlight Yearbook staff of 1957 endeavored to make their yearbook as authentic and complete as possible to retain the dear- est memories they held throughout high school. The untiring work of the actual staff and the cooperation of the remaining seniors will yield a yearbook which, we hope, will take its place among the previous award winning books. As we proceed on our highway of life, Ryan will remain only a memory captured in the Ryan- light of 1957, the product of sincere effort and co- operation. XY'e cannot forget the mothers of the students who belong to the Mothers' Club. Here again we encounter another successful organization that has helped make Ryan what it is today. This club promotes various activities to aid the school. Among these are social gatherings, raffles, card parties and an annual bazaar, to name a few. The unceasing efforts of the mothers has produced a club of such wide range of entertainment that it encompasses the whole school. A crown- ing achievement of their many activities is the annual Sports Night. Through this event the student body can see and hear people prominent in the sport's world. XVoel To those new fangled fahritsf' That's at least what the bad men of the wrestling ring are saying after our annual Sports Nite at St. john Kanty Lyteum held for the benefit of our athletic program. The four wrestlers, the tag team match, weigh- ing over 900 pounds, t'ouldn't rip the ref- eree's shirt despite their manly efforts. This, as well as other highlights, led to the amusement and entertainment of the patltetl auditorium watching this annual event. 79 :nun gi sorts Nite Committee L ft t ri tt r mttfniilt r 1 iewitf runo r wtnrtztlt lr Ixtvt 1 Nlr, Ple1i't 'ind 'NIr, Golomhek.
