ar el at our Accomplishment Bishop O'Dowd has a richly diverse student body. It was teaching respect for diversity that played a strong role in our being named a Recognized School of Excellence by the US. Department of Education. ln this year's senior class, four were named National Merit Scholars, five were designated National Achievement semifinalists for Outstanding Negro Students Cmore than any other California high schoolb, 12 received commended status for the National Merit program, and another five were commended by the National Achievement program. Our seniors' S.A.T. scores surpass the national average by over 50 points in both the verbal and mathematics areas, and, 85W of our students register in 4-year colleges after graduation. ln addition, O'Dowd's 38 athletic teams have consistently produced league champions, and, our 20 extracurricular clubs and organizations engage ir a variety of activities throughout the school year. We strive for excellence, and the dedication of our students and faculty has made O'Dowd truly a l special place. . ,..2 L. Sonia Erikson and Anya Messenger-Wescott focus on the message of the opening school mass to help them put senior year and life into perspective. This campus resource center provides extensive assistance to students and faculty gathering information for projects and reports.
