Malvolio turns and the conspirators freeze behind the rose bushes. ENGLISH PLAYS □ Bishop Noll’s English Department has developed a new ap¬ proach to the teaching of drama, through the Drama Unit. The purpose of the Drama Unit was to enlarge and supplement the English curriculum in drama by using the play-lecture system. English teachers presented lectures to the students on various topics such as: the history of drama, the Elizabethan theater, the art of comedy, and the artist’s conception of modem man in the theater of the absurd. Each lecture was followed by a play per¬ formed by the students themselves. The lectures provided the students with a basis for greater understanding and appreciation of the plays they saw. Indirectly, they were prepared to be a responsive and well-informed audience. The unit gave to the stu¬ dents a unique study of a fascinating art. ■ EVENTS 29
