Students offer their services for pre- Homecoming parade activities. HOMECOMING □ Fall is the opportune time for a Homecoming and its color and excitement. This year, preparations became frantic in order to meet the early deadline of an October 6 Homecoming. The ceremonies were inaugurated with a pep rally and the Senior skit. Fifty decorated cars and four floats formed the parade. ‘The Fresh¬ man-Sophomore float was a giant clock with the slogan, “Their time is up.” A baby carriage and the words, “We’re expecting victory,” expressed the hope of the Juniors. The Senior float, a torpedoed submarine read, “Sink ’em.” “Our Fair Ladies” was the theme of the black and white queens’ float which carried each member of the court in a crown. Half-time ceremonies centered on the coronation of the queen, Yvonne Linders. Dennis Scheidt reigned with Yvonne as Mr. Touch¬ down. Saturday night’s dance, “Basin Street Blues,” climaxed the homecoming events. ■

RETREAT Masses became more meaningful with a familiar background. 20 EVENTS □ Folk-hymn Masses, processions, guitars, hootenannys, and art work made Retreat Week at Noll a unique experience. The theme, “Reach Out,” stimulated the interests and participation of the students. Retreat masters instilled in the students an awareness that they could find God in their lives only by willingly associating with other people and learning to accept them for what they are. Discussion panels on subjects fundamental to the student’s lives helped them to understand and surmount their difficulties, doubts, and prejudices toward God, Church, and fellow man. Students in small groups standing close around the altar at Mass became a recreation of the Last Supper. Silence was not obligatory, only recommended. The closing ceremony of Retreat was the Bible Service. By singing hymns and reciting responses to the word of God, the students became one in voice and spirit. Retreat helped everyone to feel a certain openness and understanding toward himself and others. ■
