Senior History On that fall morning almost four years ago, we all stood around the gym wondering what the future held for us here at Bishop Noll High School. About 9 o ' clock we took our places in the gym where Father Junk told us what was to be expected of us in the future. With four of us sharing a locker, the first year was rather difficult. However, that year also had its gay moments, such as the footb all and basket¬ ball games and the amateur shows. On returning as Sophomores we were glad to find the new building ready for use. It was during our Sophomore year that the National Honor Society was organized. It was also during this year that we had our first try in the literary field with the publication of the MAGNIFICAT. As Juniors we edited the WARRIOR, and finally as Seniors, the MARQUETTE. 14 In the beginning of our Junor yeor the Student Council was organized to promote a better relationship between the students and the faculty. Its biggest project was the magazine drive, the proceeds of which were to help beautify the grounds. This year the Student Council, under the able leadership of Bob Austgen, is again doing the best in its power to improve our school. For those in the Choral Club this has truly been an eventful year. Their most important activity was the presentation of the operetta, the Mikado. Now, as we look back at the happy times that we have had, it is not easy to say good-bye to the school where we have spent so much of our time. For during these years we have greatly increased our knowledge and hove gained a small part of the wisdom which we will need in the years before us. It is now our duty when going out into the world to make use of our Catholic education, and by our good example to work for the greater honor and glory of God. VALEDICTORIAN SALUTATORIAN ROBERT AUSTGEN MARILYN AUSTGEN Bob Austgen, a graduate of St. Victor grade school, Calumet City, is to be con¬ gratulated upon receiving the honor of Vale¬ dictorian. Not only was Bob a member of the National Honor Society, Bi-Phy-Chem, Choral Club, and President of the Student Council, but he also participated in football for four years. After graduation, Bob will attend Notre Dame College, Notre Dame, Indiana, where we know he will continue the fine work characteristic of him. Marilyn Austgen, a graduate of St. Joseph grade school, Hammond, has attained the honor of salutatorian as the highest ranking girl of our class. Here at Noll, Marilyn par¬ ticipated in many activities. She was a mem¬ ber of the National Honor Society, Bi-Phy- Chem, Tri-Opus, Quill Scroll, Marquette, and many other school clubs. Every spring a Science Fair is held in which the students display projects in their par¬ ticular field of study. Aside from this, other activities are sponsored including an annual trip to the Museum of Science and Industry. Senior-Junior Members of the Club. OFFICERS: J. Corriden, J. Hornak, E. Powell, D. Student Council Going into its second year as an organized body, the Student Council has already accomplished many worthwhile projects for the school as well as for the students. This year the Student Council initiated a system whereby the entire student body participated in the direction of the annual Winter Formal under the leadership of the main council. Its sponsor, Mr. Ciszczon, and the Student Council have delved into the problems of the students and have helped them to carry on their education with less conflict. M. Austgen, J. Cole, P. Ever since its first meeting ten years ago, it has been one of the most successful clubs at Noll. In order to be a member of the Tri-Opus, it is necessary to obtain an above-average mark in one of the commercial subjects. We are sure that the Tri-Opus will continue to grow in success. 42 Prop and Publicity The Prop and Publicity, which was organized in the fall of 194 8, has the responsibility of advertising all the games, club dances, and other social events of the school. The chief interest of the club members is to put Noll on the map by means of publicizing it in every way. Through the tireless efforts of Miss Walsh, its faculty director, and its members, we know that Prop and Publicity will reach the top. PROP AND PUBLICITY OFFICERS M. Bihlman, I. Prokocki, P. PARTYKA Marquette Staff The 1950 MARQUETTE, under the direction of Miss Kijowski and Miss Coleman, is a combination of Noll ' s photographic, literary, artistic, and busi¬ ness ability. Through the MARQUETTE, the Senior class has a true record of high school days from the Freshman year to the Senior year. May the littest Freshman to the biggest Senior enjoy this MAR¬ QUETTE as much as the staff enjoyed publishing it for them. 46 Bishop Noll High School is proud of its school paper, THE WARRIOR. Under the direction of Sister M. Victorine, THE WARRIOR, besides showing what enters into the making of school life, also reflects the thoughts, the ideas, and the hopes of the students at Noll. Band Noll ' s third annual Spring Concert, under the direction of Mr. Sarvello, featured outstanding soloists of both the Band and the Orchestra. A spark¬ ling arrangement of Dry Bones was given by the Band. The Band and the Orchestra played the famous army arrangements of Paul Yoder. From the bleachers we frequently heard Pop Goes the Weasel and other spirited tunes. It was Noll Central ' s Band which has done much to help promote school spirit by playing at the football games. Early in January as we passed the gym, we heard oriental music and wondered who was playing it. Later we learned that it was the Orchestra practicing for the operetta, the Mikado. It took many hard hours of prac¬ tice but it was well worth their efforts. ■ Orchestra Mr. Sarvello LAST ROW: J. MacShane, Mr. Sarvello, H. Jack, E. Cera. CENTER: R. Thielen, F. Bihl- ,, J. Berg, E.
