The parish church 15 the nucleus of Catholic life The church IS the Splfllfllal waters of baptism until the day he 15 brought for the final blessing of the Church when the priest prays over his mortal remains, May the Angels lead thee into paradise Between the first blessing of baptism and the final benediction of requlem, the parish church be it a cathedral or tiny mission station IS the scene of many memorable events in the lives of its parishioners What a wonderful occasion , for instance, is that of First Communion, when the little ones of a parish gather ff, -xl I 1 gif, A at the Communion rail to receive, for the first time, Christ in the Blessed f Eucharist! Confirmation is another beautiful ceremony and sacrament that con- home of the Catholic from the time he is brought in infancy for the life-giving Sy may 7 . . . H 4 ' - 77 nl n l . A particularly joyous time is that of a wedding, when two children of the parishi' pledge their love to each other at Christ's altar where Love Eternal blesses their plighted troth. And what a proud day for the parish when one of her sons returns for Ordination. or for the celebration of his first Mass-back to the church where he once served as altar boy! These are all happy occasions in the life of a parish. There are other phases of daily living that are intimately connected with the church. W ho can number the miracles of grace that come to souls in a parish church-through the sacraments, the Mass, the special devotions that make up the spiritual program of a parish? These considerations of the sacred role of the church in our lives make us feel especially happy and privileged that our graduation will take place in church. Vile are thus reminded that though we pass from school life we remain members of a parish. At graduation the Church welcomes us to adulthood. and invites us to a fuller life of Catholic action, a life of great re- sponsibility and rich reward! ,fi QL i f it X 4: . la f2':.,s3,!!t,.:lLf.l.
