GIRLS ' TENNIS The 1979 Girl ' s Tennis Team showed a great amount of enthusiasm and potential throughout their season. Though the season was not as successful as they wished, it did not diminish the spirit and excitement of the sport. To the girls, just being able to play in the league for the school was a great experience. For the coach, Mrs. Sanchez, the season was rough. She brought the team along and gave the girls alot of moral support and enthusiasm throughout the sea- son. Some outstanding singles players were Sheila Inhen, Ann Marie Augustine, and Silvia Duran. The outstanding doubles players were Cathy Ramos, Lynn Marzan, Linda Behenna, and Elizabeth Fujio. CROSS COUNTRY 1. George Cable — the lonliness of the long distance runner. 2. Mary Kay Freeman and Maureen Bradley. 3. While the other runners concentrate. Coach Bill Staengal ' s harriers were very success- ful this year. Despite the fact they were very young, they still managed a third place finish in league. The team posted a 4-3 record overall, including victories over tough West, St. Paul, and Servite teams. Alex San Miguel, a senior, and George Cable, a junior, paced the varsity. Steve Tre- lease and Larry Linenan also made outstanding contributions. The Junior Varsity team posted a 3-3 record, 2-3 in league. They were led by Gerard Villar- eal. The team showed a lot of promise as next year ' s varsity team. The girl ' s team was the best in Bishop Mont- gomery history. Led by Donna Mantong and Yvette Rice, they finished third in league behind two powerhouses, Mater Dei and Bishop Amat. The team did reach the GIF semi-finals.
