SOPHOMORE FOOTBALL The Junior Varsity Football team took off like a rocket this year. Their first game was against the Redondo Seahawks, who they shut out at 20-0. This just tuned them up for Lennox. The JV ' s beat them with a score of 40-0. The prominent figure in this game was the full back, Sal Leal, who ran over, under, and around the Lennox de- fense. Next, the Knights lost to St. Ber- nard ' s with a score of 13-14, when a two point conversion came up short. The following game was a hard fought struggle when Bishop Montgom- ery and North Torrance both played stingy and hard-nosed in their defense. In the final minutes of the game, quar- terback, Darren Bebe, uncorked a 69 yard bomb to Alfred von Kanel, who raced into the end-zone with the win- ning touchdown. Next, the Knights ' tough defense shut out Palos Verdes with a score of 9-0. Linebackers, Bob Wagner and Rubin Soils played excep- tionally well. This game closed out the pre-season with Montgomery setting a spectacular record of 4-1 against area teams. The Angeles schedule was harder, though, as the Knight ' s did not win another game. This record does not accurately refiect the hard work and determination shown by the team. The offensive leader this year was quarterback, Darren Bebe, with his ex- ceptional running and crisp passing. Sal Leal, the back for the Knights, was re- lied on for both extensive yardage and the big play . Other prominent players were lineman. Rick Casanave, and de- fensive backs, Milce Delliomme and Steve Trudnowskl. The inspirational leader of the team was linebacker. Bob Wagner. 70 1. Rubin Solis turns on the juice. 2.
