S OUTHBAYS FINEST: m :? ' ft :v The 1 979- 1 980 Knightelles, under the leadership of their moderator. Ms. Chris Collette. have had a very successful year. The Drill Team worked hard all summer for their halftime performances at this sea- son ' s football games. The Drill Team was directed by Colonel Carrol Simmons, (Senior). ( irsi Captain Myra Garin, (Senior) and Second Captain Mary Han- sen. (.Junior). The tall flags were lead by Trish and Mary Sapien, both .luniors. The leaders for the short flags were Noreen Garin, (Junior), and Lisa VN ' alski, (Senior). This year we had only one batin twirler. Darcy Slolz, (Freshmen), but her talent was enough for an entire team. The drill team, along with the short flags appeared at the East Los Angeles College, giving a spectular halftime performance. During No- vember, a competition was held at Arroyo High School, which brought the precision team a respectable fourth place title. Although both the tall and short flag teams consisted of new members, they did well at the competition. Disneyland hosted a competition from November 22nd to the 2. th. The Knightettes thoroughly enjoyed marching in the Main Sired Parade for the first time. The Knightettes competed in the competition and the were outstanding. The precision and parade teams both took first place in their categories. The short flag team also did well by taking second place. Carrol Simmons, the Colonel, entered in the queen competition and was selected eighth in the court of girls from several different states. The Knightettes also competed at the West High and Miss Drill Team U.S.A. competitions, later in the year. Dazzeling smiles could be seen from the Knightettes while performing at the competions. They did extremely well at both performances. The Extravaganza, a show put on by the Knightettes, doing various different routenes was enjoyed by all. Bishop can be very proud of the fantastic halftime performances and the support the drill team has brought to the school. 1 1979-1980 Knightette Officers. Pep Rallies-Knight Time The best thing about pep rallies wasn ' t the shortened classes, it was the atmosphere. After sixth period the stu- dents felt free to get wild and crazy. The pep rallies consist- ed of skits and performances by the cheerleaders and songs. Contests were a hot item this year as some of the schools best looking guys strutted across the gym floor flaunting their hot legs . Mike Balderas won the title because of his originality though many thought Mike Fish had the best legs. The pep rallies proved to be a great asset to the athlete ' s confidence. (ireg Gomez prepares the outside of the gym for the pep rally. Rene Brigden, Pele Sterfenelli, Jolene Gregory, Kalhy Trujillo, Pat Mancuso, and the great Kim Hix entertain the entire school with their protrayal of the North High cheerleaders. Freshmen show their spirit Woodstock as their mascot. Sophomores get lazy at Knight Time. Jerry Desert, Bo Kelly, Greg Gomez, Mike Fish, Pat Mancuso, and Martin Von Kanel show their stuff.
