The Homecoming pep rally was Ihe climax of the spirit week. During this each class showed their spirit by wearing their class colors, decorating the school, and having a fund raiser during lunch time. The newcomers, the freshmen, did very well in showing their spirit, along with the three upper classes as well. The spirit contest points were close at the beginning of the pep rally with the junior class in the lead. During the pep rally each class showed their spirit. The senior class, having shown the most spirit was awarded the spirit trophy by Fr. Loomis and the ASB officers. This was the first time the senior class had won the trophy and they were estatic. There was also an award given to the junior class officers for their good leadership of their class throughout the week. Just minutes prior to this. Coach Norton explained that the only good Swordsmen is a ... His feelings expressed those of the whole student body as they yelled and cheered. The princes.scs of the Homecoming court were announced as everyone held their breath. As the time passed and darkness fell upon us, it was time once again for the traditional Homecoming game. The special game was kicked off by the spectacular Homecoming parade. The color guards, the drill team, the four class floats, and the lovely princesses in the old fashioned cars, cleared the cleared the track for the knights to enter onto the field. Halftime ceremonies conducted by our Homecoming Chairman Pat Klein, included the announcement of the winner of the float contest. The junior class took the trophy with ease. Their victorious entry of That Golden Knight was displayed by a rainbow and a pot of gold, two lephechauns, and a golden knight, was admired and loved by all. Another halftime activity was the breath-taking moment of the coronation of a new Homecoming queen. Last year ' s Homecoming queen Jane Aki, graciously gave up her crown to a deserving Theresa Trevino. Theresa was very happy and was congratulated by the other four princesses and friends who were also happy for her. St. Paul did manage to walk away with the game, the final score being 7-13, but they certainly didn ' t lower our spirit, enthusiasm, or morale, which was evident throughout the season. All attended with their sweetheart or favorite friend. ' That Special Knight was accompanied by the band, Organized Crime, which played some really up-beat disco tunes to which everyone rocked, including teachers. Toward the end came the queen ' s dance with Theresa Trevino and Tom Hardesty, which got everyone in a very romantic mood. The dance ended with a cheery round of M-l-C — see ya real soon — K-E-Y — why? because we like you-by the band, which summed up the general feeling of the dance. 12 Homecoming BISHOP MONTGOMERY HIGH SCHOOL 5MEC0MVMG DANCE SAT 63(rw;ijli™ PARADE AND FLpATS II]nO;:; ' FOOTBAlt ARSITYiSTiPAUL FRITHOME - - 1 T 1 1 1 n TIT T I n T M M -TTT1 m TTTT n T VTTn 1111111 M v I % 1 n 1 ff l v - v i H I ■Ml IyJ H 1 VK ■n 1 1 If ;;  nAl k ■M l k mM Hv ' T ' lt - v H Iw H M Hi L l ■6vV.w!« ' ' 4 T 5 H Hi V H ■I HB HJfvKf); 2:.y f! | I H m 1 ■f hH H HH 1 1 1. The Junior Varsity Cheerleaders, Barbi Shelter, Tina Dove, Meg Butier, Trish Petty, Judi Froch- lich, and Frannie Ponsford, showed their enthusi- asm as they cheered the Sophomores on to victory. Although they are new on campus, the Freshmen cheerleaders, Alice Cardona, Lauren Donovan, Cristina Lechuga, Laura Mostero, and Elizabeth Ortega, showed alot of spirit and excitement during the football games and pep rallies. 16 Pep Rallies-Knight Time The best thing about pep rallies wasn ' t the shortened classes, it was the atmosphere. After sixth period the stu- dents felt free to get wild and crazy. The pep rallies consist- ed of skits and performances by the cheerleaders and songs. Contests were a hot item this year as some of the schools best looking guys strutted across the gym floor flaunting their hot legs . Mike Balderas won the title because of his originality though many thought Mike Fish had the best legs. The pep rallies proved to be a great asset to the athlete ' s confidence. (ireg Gomez prepares the outside of the gym for the pep rally. Rene Brigden, Pele Sterfenelli, Jolene Gregory, Kalhy Trujillo, Pat Mancuso, and the great Kim Hix entertain the entire school with their protrayal of the North High cheerleaders. Pep Rallies 17 S OUTHBAYS FINEST: m :? ' ft :v The 1 979- 1 980 Knightelles, under the leadership of their moderator. Ms. Chris Collette. have had a very successful year. The Drill Team worked hard all summer for their halftime performances at this sea- son ' s football games. The Drill Team was directed by Colonel Carrol Simmons, (Senior). ( irsi Captain Myra Garin, (Senior) and Second Captain Mary Han- sen. (.Junior). The tall flags were lead by Trish and Mary Sapien, both .luniors. The leaders for the short flags were Noreen Garin, (Junior), and Lisa VN ' alski, (Senior). This year we had only one batin twirler. Darcy Slolz, (Freshmen), but her talent was enough for an entire team. The drill team, along with the short flags appeared at the East Los Angeles College, giving a spectular halftime performance. During No- vember, a competition was held at Arroyo High School, which brought the precision team a respectable fourth place title. Although both the tall and short flag teams consisted of new members, they did well at the competition. Disneyland hosted a competition from November 22nd to the 2. th. The Knightettes thoroughly enjoyed marching in the Main Sired Parade for the first time. The Knightettes competed in the competition and the were outstanding. The precision and parade teams both took first place in their categories. The short flag team also did well by taking second place. Carrol Simmons, the Colonel, entered in the queen competition and was selected eighth in the court of girls from several different states. The Knightettes also competed at the West High and Miss Drill Team U.S.A. competitions, later in the year. Dazzeling smiles could be seen from the Knightettes while performing at the competions. They did extremely well at both performances. The Extravaganza, a show put on by the Knightettes, doing various different routenes was enjoyed by all. Bishop can be very proud of the fantastic halftime performances and the support the drill team has brought to the school. 1 1979-1980 Knightette Officers. They lend enormous support to the teams and allow the whole school to gel involved in a little fun .Some of the outrageous stunts included our very own North High cheerleaders. They portrayed the actual ones to perfection! Another well liked skit was the Best Legs Contest . The contest was won by the one and only !V1ike Balderas. The entire school ' s spirit was apparent in every activity they participated in. The Juniors won the float contest with their excellent float, That Golden Knight . It was a well deserved trophy for the Junior Class who can definitely pride themselves on being hardworking and spirited. Spirit week began with the Freshmen and Sophomore color day. Freshmen colors were black and powder blue, worn by all spirited Freshmen. The day ' s activities were a sponge toss by the Freshmen and an egg toss by the Sophomore ' s. Sophomore ' s also wore their class colors which were brown and gold. The theme of the Freshmen float was Tonite ' s the Night and the Sopho- more ' s theme was Mommy told me there ' d be nights like this. and she was right! Junior class day brought out the best in the Juniors. Brown and gold could be seen throughout the school. Their class activity was musical chairs which everyone enjoyed. Red and White! Yes, the Seniors stole the show as always. Toilet paper galore! A bunch of kids never had so much fun! Their activity for the day was a sweet walk, similar to musical chairs, but much more delicious. The theme for the Senior class was A Night on the Town. Spirit Week 23 E T T E R G I R L S It ' s said that there is strength in numbers, the lettergiris of 1979-1980 proved this to be true. The lettergirls represent various sports such as volleyball, basketball, soccer, cross country, track, Softball, and drill team. Each member must has participated in one year of a varsity sport or two years of a junior varsity sport. The lettergirls are kept very busy during the year by serving at the Boy ' s Sports Banquets, Father Daughter Night, selling popcorn at football games, sponsoring girls ' basketball tournaments, working at the snack bar during sports events. The major goals of the lettergirls are to create unity, spirit, and organization among the girls athletic program at Bishop Montgomery High School. The lettergirls club could have never been such a success without their dedicated officers. Patty Cindro, played an important role in leadership. She was the president of the club and performed her duties well. Other officers included, Vice-President, Kathy Trujillo, (Senior) Treasure Theresa Trevino, (Senior) Secretary Jolene Gregory, (Senior) Publicity Patty Froelich (Senior) Underclassman Representative Patty Aki (Sopho- more) Coordinating the events of the year was their moderator, Ms. Collette. John, along with the other officers, Kevin Bateman, (Senior) Vice-President, Tom Baaden, (Senior) Secretary, and Eric Classman, (Junior) Finance Committee Chairman, helped bring leadership qualities to the lettermen club. One of the major goals and aspirations of the lettermen club this year was to raise money by putting on a dance and a bake sale, to buy a new victory bell. This is a great achievement that will be remembered for years to come. The Lettermen were busy this year helping as ushers at the Rock The World concert and putting on the intermural basketball games. This year could have never passed without mentioning the support given by the lettermen at the basketball games. A lot of spirit and enthusiasm could be heard from the left side of the homeside bleachers. They helped cheer the team on to victory by performing the ever famous B.M.H.S. cheer. SERVES YOU The 1979-80 ASB officers came into office this year with a lot of enthusiasm and new ideas. Some major goals set by the officers were to promote and help organize school ac- tivities, and p rovide a student service center thru the activi- ties office. Under the direction of their new moderator, Fr. Richard Loomis, the ASB officers, and twenty-four class officers worked together producing an efficient and well run student government. In preparation for the upcoming year, a workshop took place during the summer. Unique and creative ideas were developed and various activities were in the planning pro- cess. This workshop proved to be beneficial numerous times during the year. The year can well be remembered by the outstanding accomplishments of ASB President, Tim Mc Osker and his officers. Many devoted hours were spent before and after school in preparation for various activities. One major event that was a box office sell out, was the Rock the World concert. This proved to be another successful event that was enjoyed by all as they listened to the perfect impersenations of the Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones, and the Bea ttles. 26 ASB A new tradition was introduced last year by ASB, inter- mural basketball. This year, intermurals offered not only an opportunity for male athletes to compete, but also female athletes. We hope the outstanding participation will contin- ue in the years to come. Such events as Welcome Frosh Dance, Spirit Week, and Homecoming, showed the efforts and dedication of hard working ASB and student council members. The Home- coming festivities were done in an expert manner and our appreciation goes to Tim Mc Osker, Chairman Pat Klein, and his assistant Annette Strickland. With the combined efforts of President Tim Mc Osker and Vice President Eric Classman, the pep rallies were lead with a lot of spirit and unity that showed the true spirit of the Bishop Montgomery Family. An important accomplishment was made this year by ASB. A newly made constitution was adopted. This will surely benefit the future leaders of the Bishop Montgomery. Keeping students well informed through the new marquis and bullitin boards was also an achievement in establishing good communication with the students. Through the com- bined efforts of the administration, student council, and the student body, the year of 1979-80 proved to be a very successful one. X. . ' { ■■1. The 1979-80 ASB officers. ASB 27 The Staff That Made It! The 1980 YEARBOOK, a recognized classic even before publication, was created by a dedicated staff of hard-work- ing Knights, led by their moderator, Mr. Dan Martinez. The staffers worked their fingers to the bone, often by moonlight, to turn out a masterpiece, a book to end all yearbooks. They succeeded! The 1980 book will be passed from generation to generation, through-out the ages. The staff worked very hard on this year ' s edition. Some people made very notable contributions, especially the edi- tors in chief, Karen Moschel and Cathy Bednorz, the stu- dent editor Terri .Andrade, the activities editor Diane Wratschko. and the photography specialists; Dana Hursey, Mike Richardson, and .i ndrea Favilii. The road to a finished yearbook was filled with potholes. buL the problems were all overcome. A lot of hard work, late hours, headaches, stomach aches, and heartaches went into the yearbook, 1980. The staff is very proud of it, and they sincerely hope you enjoy it! 28 Excalibur 1. Cathy Bednorz shows how experience and dedication pays off in the end. 2. Our Editor, Karen Moschel. 3. Excalibur 29 Every month, a fresh new copy of KNIGHT LIFE , the school newspaper, is delivered to your homeroom. This takes a lot of effort from the newspaper staff, and they deserve a lot of credit. It is quite an achievement to produce a newspaper uith limited lime and equipment. The staff has managed this and the results haw been good. The staff who was guided by Mrs. Susan Egan, welded the group into a smooth working unit. The student editor, Beth Ennis, also deserves a lot of credit, for her dedication and work. The student body will agree that this year ' s paper is much more improved than the last years. The staff pro ides extensive coverage of sports, school time, extra-curricular activities, a rock column, and a letter to the editor ' s column. They also have tackled many controversial sub- jects with their well-written editorials. A new feature this year was the advertising page, head- ed by Erika Von Rathjen. The comedy presen- tation of Heaven Can Wait proved to be a success by the crowds that filled Thomas Moore Hall. October first was the day the crew and cast began work- ing and preparing for opening night. They had two months before the curtain opened. Sets had to be built, actors had to learn lines, costumes had to be made! This was no time to relax! The leading roles were played by, David Sweet, Sherri Webb, Lawrence Sincich, Eugene Ireland, Kathleen Ryan, Christian Matthies, and Cindy Underwood. The only experienced actor was Eugene Ireland, who displayed his talents very well. However, Lawrence Sincich and Sherri Webb deserve recognition for their acting abili- ty. Kathy Ryan convinced the audience to despise her. Everyone liked the lovable, yet vulnerable chacter por- trayed by Cindy Underwood. All the credit however, does not go to the actors and actresses. The make-up and crop crew can not be forgotten. They spent many hours hard and never got to be in the spot light. Also Mrs. Fernandez deserves a round of applause for her time, effort, and understanding which went into the presentation in order to make it a success. This year however, there was to be a change. The Senior class, being in charge of the game decided to use their creativity and hold the game at night. With the approval of the Faculty and Administration, the game was set for November 20, 1979. The Senior girls, who were ready and anxious to play, were coached by Jim Andrade and Steve Paul. The girls who came to early Saturday morning practices, were deter- mined to defend their title. They had high hopes of being the first class in Bishop Montgomery ' s history to have won the Powder Puff Game two years in a row. The Junior girls, who had never participated in the Pow- der Puff Game, gathered as a team for the first time. Their coaches, Mr. Brown, Mr. Walker, and Mr. Martinez, showed them the fundamentals of football. The coaches observed a lot of hidden talent and had high hopes for the game. The date of November twentieth came at last. The Senior and Junior girls participating in the game wore shirts and ties of their class colors to show their spirit. Ail players were ready and anticipated the game. At the shot of the gun the game began. During the first quarter the game remained scoreless. At the half time the score was 6-0, the Seniors favor. The touch down, made by LuLu Fernandez was made just as the gun sounded the end of the second quarter. The halftime performances were made by the supportive Senior and Junior guy cheerleaders. At this time the Pow- der Puff King was announced. John Mellis was the honored King for the year of 1979. The kick off of the second half brought about a very competitive effort by both teams. Each team played to their fullest capacity. The Juniors, opened the scoring with a long bomb for a touchdown to Cathy Browning. The score was now tied, 6-6. Both teams struggled for the lead, with the Juniors scoring in the final moments of the game. The game ended with the score 12-6. This was one of the best games played in the Powder Puff history at B. M. H. S. The outstanding players of the Senior team were Sharon Me- dina, LuLu Fernandez, Paula Stacek, and Karen (the crush) Moschel. The outstanding players of the Junior teams were Carrie Brown, Patty Shelter, and Jocelyn Hil- lard. This game was exciting as it was successful. 1. His majesty. They opened their season with a stunning 29-3 victory over the Redondo Seahawks. The defense shut Redondo down, forcing turnovers which gave the offense many scoring opportuni- ties. The North Torrance game was sweet revenge for Montgomery. Remembering the 1978, 13-10 heartbreaker, the Knights walked all over the Saxons 35-3, as fullback, Steve Abram ran wild. The Knights ' best games, ironically, were losses by identical scores. Top ranked CIF teams. Mater Dei and St. Paul, both came to Knight Stadium on successive Friday nights and both limped home, thanking their lucky stars for victories in games Montgomery dominated. No team in Montgomery history has worked harder than this year ' s varsity football team. They lifted weights, ran, polished their skills since early February, resulting in a team small in size, but very strong. The stand-out on this year ' s football team was senior, Steve Abram. He achieved All-League honors both as fullback and linebacker. Quarterback, Jim Miller, led the offense, and ke yed the passing attack, throwing to Lance Taylor, Tony Castillo, and Kevin Bateman. Both Miller and Taylor were selected second team All-League. Lineman, Kent Taylor, and defensive ack, Tom Baaden were also selected first team All-League. Other prominent figures were third year varsity lineman, n McOsker, defensive end, Joe Pueliu, defensive back, Rob Petroni, center, John Mellis, and running back, Terrell jds. 64 Varsity Football 1. Their first game was against the Redondo Seahawks, who they shut out at 20-0. This just tuned them up for Lennox. The JV ' s beat them with a score of 40-0. The prominent figure in this game was the full back, Sal Leal, who ran over, under, and around the Lennox de- fense. Next, the Knights lost to St. Ber- nard ' s with a score of 13-14, when a two point conversion came up short. The following game was a hard fought struggle when Bishop Montgom- ery and North Torrance both played stingy and hard-nosed in their defense. In the final minutes of the game, quar- terback, Darren Bebe, uncorked a 69 yard bomb to Alfred von Kanel, who raced into the end-zone with the win- ning touchdown. Next, the Knights ' tough defense shut out Palos Verdes with a score of 9-0. Linebackers, Bob Wagner and Rubin Soils played excep- tionally well. This game closed out the pre-season with Montgomery setting a spectacular record of 4-1 against area teams. The Angeles schedule was harder, though, as the Knight ' s did not win another game. This record does not accurately refiect the hard work and determination shown by the team. The offensive leader this year was quarterback, Darren Bebe, with his ex- ceptional running and crisp passing. Sal Leal, the back for the Knights, was re- lied on for both extensive yardage and the big play . Other prominent players were lineman. Rick Casanave, and de- fensive backs, Milce Delliomme and Steve Trudnowskl. The inspirational leader of the team was linebacker. Bob Wagner. 70 1. Rubin Solis turns on the juice. 2. To the girls, just being able to play in the league for the school was a great experience. For the coach, Mrs. Sanchez, the season was rough. She brought the team along and gave the girls alot of moral support and enthusiasm throughout the sea- son. Some outstanding singles players were Sheila Inhen, Ann Marie Augustine, and Silvia Duran. The outstanding doubles players were Cathy Ramos, Lynn Marzan, Linda Behenna, and Elizabeth Fujio. Coach Bill Staengal ' s harriers were very success- ful this year. Despite the fact they were very young, they still managed a third place finish in league. The team posted a 4-3 record overall, including victories over tough West, St. Paul, and Servite teams. Alex San Miguel, a senior, and George Cable, a junior, paced the varsity. Steve Tre- lease and Larry Linenan also made outstanding contributions. The Junior Varsity team posted a 3-3 record, 2-3 in league. They were led by Gerard Villar- eal. The team showed a lot of promise as next year ' s varsity team. The girl ' s team was the best in Bishop Mont- gomery history. Led by Donna Mantong and Yvette Rice, they finished third in league behind two powerhouses, Mater Dei and Bishop Amat. The team did reach the GIF semi-finals. First-year coach Steve Korte along with his assistant Greg Sabosky tried many combinations in an effort to find the answers. The Knight ' s 6-17 record could have been much improved however. Many losses were just by a couple of points. The Knight ' s played some outstanding games, notably a 57-51 league win over PiusX before a screaming home crowd, and a 40-37 upset win over Hart in the Beverly Hills Tournament. Players contributing much to the team included forward Ron Hayes, who singlehandedly kept Montgomery close in many early season games. Junior center John Coughlin who really came on strong late in the season, and sophomore Dwayne McAdoo who shot extremely well from the outside. Other contributors included returning lettermen Greg Gomez, an outstanding ballhandler, Tom Hardesty, who played foreward and guard, and Mike Mondello, the only member returning for his third season on the Varsity squad who unfortinately suffered a serious ankle injury. Also appearing at guard were Rob Hernandez, instrumental in the Pius win; and senior Ray Waters. Matt Gierat also had some excellent games at foreward, as did Mario Marquez and Steve Regalado. Seniors Bennie Lagos, Jon Mostero, Al Reyes, Greg Cook and Dave Porter also came through when called on. We must also remember team manager Greg Benkendorfer who gave loyal assistance to the team at all times and kept their spirits high. All in all, the 1979-80 season was a great learning experience for the team, and a year to be proud of for the members and their coach Steve Korte whose innovative coaching techniques really helped the team. The team played very well together. There were a few tall players, including 6 ' 3 Ron Spears who controlled the boards with the help of 6 4 Steve Murphy, 6 ' 2 Steve Van Ingen and 6 Mike Rumsey. The offense was led by Sophomores Marcos Munoz and high scoring Sophomore Mike Ulnek, who took all-tourney in the Serra Tournament, and also by Eddie Medel, who, in the beginning of the season, contributed very much. The rest of the players did not get much playing time, but when used, they did a fantastic job. The highest-scoring games of the season were beating Mater Dei at home and the game which was played against Servile away, in which the J.V. ' s beat them by 20 points, in this game ev- eryone got to play and this was a great way to end the season. 86 J V Basketball - t Boys ' JV Basketball Scores Won 8; Lost 2 We 49 Pius X The; 43 71 Bishop Amat 67 52 St. Paul 36 57 Servile 71 48 Mater Dei 58 48 Pius X 42 59 Bishop Amat 55 60 St. Paul 48 41 Mater Dei 39 63 Servite 48 Mike Rumsey goes high into the air between two opposing players to put the ball in. Girls ' Soccer 97 V A R S I T Y This years Varsity Basketball team showed dramatic im- provement in the second round of league playoffs defeating the second place team Bishop Amat 47 to 38. The team defense and shooting percentages improved overall especially for Ma- ria Cafaro, Sharon Medina and Jolene Gregory. Maria Cafaro, a Junior, averaged 10.4 points per game and completed 51% of her free throws. Her highest scoring game consisted of 19 points overall. She was also picked for second team all league and should be a great asset to the team in the 1980-81 season. Sharon Medina also chosen for second team all league averaged 9.5 points per game with her highest scoring game of 21 points. She scored 44% of her free throws and averaged eight assists per game along with Maria Cafaro who is always a threat under the basket. Sharon was also voted most valu- able player for the 1979-80 season. Jolene Gregory averaged 1 1.3 points per game and was a threat under the basket this year. She also had good rebound- ing. _ Michelle Smith a wing and a guard was responsible for several steals this season and will be a strong player for the 1980-81 season. Linda Husar a very aggressive guard and a big threat on defense was a great player with good passing ability. First year coach Terry Mason did an extremely fine job of uniting this years team in many winning combinations of play. She felt the most improved players were Maria Cafaro and Cathy Aki. The most inspirational was Patti Aki. This was with no doubt a tough and talented team. They had a lot to learn in a short time. A junior, Donna Bozulich, having more experience and knowledge, helped the team pro- gress throughout the year. This was a key factor in the progres- sion of the team. The team ' s inex- perience lasted but a short time because they worked hard. As the year progressed the games be- came closer and closer. After their game against St. Paul things began to go in their favor. They pulled out two victories, one against Pius X and the other over Bishop Amat. Diane Cafaro and Karen Costello contributed a ma- jority of the points throughout the season. Considering the team had no practice games before the season which hurt their perfor- mance, they finally put it all together. Another factor against them was that they had no gym time and they had to practice outside. The team was led by first year coac h Carol Stellino who, with the help of Donna Bozulich, taught the team a great deal. With better practicing conditions and this season ' s experience the team should be really sharp next season. Coach Mason gives ihe girls an inspiring pep talk. It is the hope of the Business Depart- ment that the students who leave Mont- gomery will improve in economic citi- zenship, understand the human dignity of all workers, and apply Christian eth- ics to business problems. 124 Business The Science Department at Bishop Mont- gomery consists of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. The courses are lough, but well worth the effort. Students acquire an in depth knowledge of the world and its natural and chemical reactions. The courses are prerequi- sites for college and highly recommended. ife lii liliM mlh, Ml L NAIUliE S ' ; 1 ' . i k W ' ' ■-  : ' SB • ■.• ' s c I E N C E S Sr. Mary Braun advises Pat Mancuso and Kathleen l)e Krancc in lyping class. Senior year has definitely been an exciting and fulfilling one. The fund raiser this year was selling bagels, which really did well. The mother-daughter tea was a real success. It was a beautiful day filled with delicious refreshments and great conversation. The seniors, known for their lack of spirit, really involved them- selves in spirit week. The theme of their float was A Knight on the Town, a unanimously favorite pastime. All showed up on class color day donned in red and white and smiles. They were welcomed by a splendid array of artwork done the night before, namely toilet paper and banners. Names of the most prominent or those who got there first, decorated the ice plant of the school that morning. The senior Mass was colorful and touching, led by a class favorite. Father Kidney. All joined in prayer for themselves and each other. To top it all off, the class prided themselves at the end of the week by winning the Spirit Trophy. The senior retreat at Valleyremo was definitely a rewarding ex- perience for all who attended. The students learned to love God and each other a bit more. The scenery was beautiful and the atmo- sphere quite relaxing. Senior year has definitely been a time of intellectual and spiritual growth, of appreciating one ' s friends and teachers, of trying to make application deadlines for college, and making memories that last a lifetime. They have achieved a lot during the 1979-80 school year. They combine two years of experience, with spirit and enthusiasm. They won the Homecoming float contest with ease. Their float, themed That Golden Knight was a great accomplishment and showed a lot of work. The Junior class had able, hard-working officers. Leading the class was President Debbie Brown, assisted by Sue Finn. The secre- tary was Vicki Applewhite. The treasurer was Lisa Fraser. The homeroom Representative was Joe Gordon, along with Jeanne Cos- tello as Publicity Coordinator. These fine officers were guided by moderators Mrs. Murphy, Mrs. Miller, and Mr. Staengel. The students come back and see their friends from last year. This year there was a new class, over 400 strong. It is the freshmen class of 1 983. The excited Frosh took on a big step from grammar school to high school. The Freshmen class has adjusted very well to the change and have made many new friends. The Freshmen class elected the leaders of their class for the first time. Their president was Lani Pueliu, assisted by her vice pres. Gabri- el Capdivila. The secretary of the class Dani Mc Osker who worked together with Lisa Zabel as treasurer. Their publicity coordinator was Lynn Mountain along with Paula Hay as homeroom coordinator. These officers did a good job of organizing such events as their spirit week activities and their freshmen float, which was very good and took second place.
