This motto gave the incentive to the twenty-five member Service Committee to show their dedication to Miege and to their commu- nity. Major projects this school year included the talent show, foreign student scholarships, teacher appreciation, hostess service, and breakfast for the athletic teams. Community projects consisted of Catholic Chari- ties food drives, visiting the elderly, and holiday parties for retarded children in Paola. These projects require time, energy and an acute desire to give of themselves. Moderated by Sister Mildred and guided by the leadership of Laurie Downs and Barb Fogarty, the Service Committee once again lived up to its reputation. 18 Service Committee Aids Surrounding Communities

D'Agostir1o. 75 Debate Team Combines Talent Mrs. Janet Andrew and Miss Virginia Meyer joined forces this year to improve the quality of Miege's interscholastic debate team. The combi- nation of last year's experience and this year's incoming talent filled the debators with aspira- tions of great success. The Varsity debate team journeyed to tourna- ments at area Shawnee Mission high schools, Topeka Highland, and the Regional Tournament held at Miege. Their topic for the '73 year was, Resolved: That the federal government should exclusively finance all public primary and sec- ondary schools in the United States. Although the team failed to place in the tournaments, they continued to improve their insights into the process of debating. Plans for next year include extensive instruction that will serve to benefit the team and round out the program. 'tI'l1 give you two Mickey Mantles for one Willie Mays. . .
