Page I6 When student life sometimes hits the tedious points. when the monotony of daily routines be- comes almost unbearable and the hours from nine to three seem never to pass. one can always count on two little black-veiled heads plotting things of in- terest for the students. The little Providence Sisters always pull through. The order of the Sisters of Providence had its beginning when Mother Theodore Guerin led five French sisters into the Indiana wilderness of an unf known land. There, with nothing more than a roclv like trust in Gods Providence. she built St. Mary-off the-Vwloods. This was the year l840. Mother Theodore was considered an outstand- ing educatorfthe government had attested that fact by decorating her with the French medallion for proficiency in teaching. Thus, in the spirit of their foundress, the Providence Sisters developed compel tent teachers in every field of study. However. devotion to the Blessed Sacrament has always characterized the true Sister of Providence ln the Exposition Chapel at St. Mary-of-the-XVoods is continued unbroken a tradition of Perpetual Ad- oration of more than thirty-five years. ll T Y xxx, X - 1 I 4 4.
