The true spirit of the school was shown as it always is in the atti- tudes and acceptance of the new idea developed by the student body. We truely appreciate all your hard work and enthusiasm you have put forth throughout the year, thank YOU, FR. FRED. Fr. Mike is the Assistant Principal this year. Whenever Fr. Fred is gone for the day Fr. Mike is in charge of things. Fr. Mike is also in charge of making out schedules for all the students and fitting students into classes when they join the class late. Mike take time out for a picture. 66 BRAIN POWER The picture to the right portrays the sense of humor that our two deans, Fr. Max and Ms. Lombardo, need to have in order to cope with their responsibil- ities. Ms. Lombardo and Fr. Max are the enforcers of law and order at Bishop Luers. Although there are a few at Luers who consider the deans as the enemy most of us know them as a friend They treat each individual fairly and are always willin to listen with an open mind. Deans And Librarian Earn Recognition Fr. Max Langendorfer, O.F.M. Ms. Mary Lombardo Mrs. Beyer holds a degree in Library Science from Indiana University. She came to Bishop Luers in the fall of 1977 to be in charge of the library. Many changes have been made since Mrs. Beyer came to Luers. She has worked hard to improve the facilities of the library which is now known as the me- dia center. We all owe Mrs. Beyer (pictured to the right) a big THANKS. Persons in high station are not only answerable for their own conduct, but for the example they may hold out to others. Well, it is the language that most of us learned to first speak. Ac- cording to Websters New World Dictionary English is a school course or class in the English language or its literature. To some it may mean a book report, a term paper or a speech that has to be given. At Luers, how- ever, it means the experts who bring the English language to life in such courses as: Science Fiction, British Authors, Plays, Poet- ry, Journalism, and College Writing. Look out Billy Kratzert, here comes Kevin Schiffli!! The 1979 Golf Team entered the season with plenty of experience and the desire and goal to improve. The third place finish in the SAC made the Knights a contender for a regional berth. The success of the season was due to the contribution of all the team members — some never played in varsity competition but were good enough to start for other confer- ence teams. This reserve of talent allowed for a flexible lineup with plenty of intra-squad competition. All the team members are in the pro- cess of learning more about the game and the experience of summit play and the competition among teammates insures continued suc- cess. Members of the 1979 Golf Team are: Coach O ' Connor, Mike Kehoe, Kevin Schiffli, Tom Osterholt, MVP Jeff Coffee, Mark Andorfer, Team Captain Joe Celarek, Todd Fenoglio, Bret Klotz, Tony Peppier, Mace Whiting, Dave Ward, Glenn Placido, Barry Ward. ■Heads up . The power of the tennis team was reflected in their 14-0 season record, eleven of the victories consisting of 7-0 shut outs of their opponents. The Knight team brought home a SAC City Championship trophy as well as a Co-Sectional Champs trophy. Under the coaching of Mary Lombardo, Renee Ward and Jan Nartker, named to the All Area tennis team, stroked their way to victory as Sectional Doubles Champs. Who would have thought that now I ' d b searching for words?? ' year was very special t the yearbook and peop with made it that way. Hopefully this year all of us at Luers have grown — We ' ve surely lived, and for many, the nine months we ' ve spent together will always be treasured. Being a part of the Luers ' Community, we can ' t help but grow in spirit, knowledge, and love for life. This yearbook was put together by a great staff that deserves so much credit. We set out to capture the good and bad times of the year and I can honestly say I think we ' ve done a fan- tastic job. I would like to personally thank Ms. Anita An- derson, our moderator for her time and work put toward our book. Next I ' d like to thank Doug Starost, ACCOLADE ' S head photographer and business manager. The editors of each section really need to be congratulated, too, especially those seniors that kept on working dil- igently even when Graduation-itis set in!!!!! They are Susan Barbieri, Brigetti Ohse, Ginny Hettinger, Paula Bangert, Nan Konger, Steph Cowen, and Maria Zintzmaster. Also thanks and good luck to Kathy Matter, this year ' s assistant editor who will take over next year as Editor. Thanks also to all of the underclassmen on the staff — You did a great job!!! My year as editor is over — thanks to so many people it has been a memorable one!! It is done and I am finished. vvf: Ann L. Gildea Editor-in-Chief ACCOLADE 1978-79 JOSTsNS ys imooc CONP NY
