Max Introduction 1 TRYING TO FIND MY DIRECTION. That ' s what each of us is doing as we go through high school. Will we con- tinue our schooling? Will we enlist in the service? What kind of a job will we strive for in the future? Where are we heading? Whether we know it or not, these four years of high school will help us establish a direction in life. Hope- fully, for all of us of Bishop Luers, it will be the right direction. 2 Introduction ssisS AT FORT WAYNE :p m Introduction 3 Β :.:i ' :SS5??. Introduction 9 Is anybody happier because you passed his way? Does anyone remember that you spoke to him today? The day is almostover, and its toiling time is through; Is there anyone to utter now a kindly word of you? Can you say tonight, in parting with the day that ' s slipping fast, That you helped a single brother of the many that you passed? 10 Introduction Is a single heart rejoicing over what you did or said; Does the man whose hopes were fading, now with courage look ahead? Did you waste the day, or lose it? Was it well or sorely spent? Did you leave a trail of kindness, or a scar of discontent? As you close your eyes in slumber, do you think that God will say, You have earned one more tomorrow by the work you did today ? The Minstrels performed for a num- ber of private gatherings including shows for Lincoln Life, St. Joseph Hospital and Republican dinners where many important officials were on hand. The highlights of the year were a bicentennial tour of Boston where the Minstrels sang in the famous Old North Church; the Second In- vitational Swing Choir Contest February 28; and finally an invitation to sing for the arrival of President of the U.S. Gerald Ford at the Coli- seum. This was the scene of many a 1975-76 high school day at Bishop Luers. Ranging from wearing scuba gear in class to cart wheeling in the library, this troop brought a new and unique meaning to the word insanity. Knight Lights 59 Pub Comments To the Bishop Luers Community: The year one graduates from high school is always special. For seniors, it will be a transitional year in their lives. Half the year will be spent as a juvenile, the other half as an adult, it is an important time in our lives. After eighteen years of dependence, you are now free to make your own decisions and accept some real responsibility. In broad terms, this means putting your life in order today while planning for tomorrow. In doing this, often one has little time for the past and we partly forget about an important time in our lives β our high school career. All that is history is part of us too and in losing the past, one loses a part of one ' s self just as surely as if one were to lose a limb. Anyone who buys a yearbook does so in part to preserve the memories of what once was. It is a history in pictures and in print. As you page through your 1976 ACCOLADE, faces and events will live again; and, as you grow older, your ACCOLADE will become even more meaningful. You will find yourself remem- bering names, faces and events which you had long forgotten. You will laugh; you will cry; you will find that you can, indeed, go home again. I would be remiss if I did not, in closing, say a few words about your editor-in-chief Beth Braun and assistant editor Carol Nolan. Both have put in long hours after school and even in the summer months to save your memories for you. What motivates them? Nothing more than love of school and classmates. So here it is β your special Bicentennial ACCOLADE. Read and enjoy it; then put it in a safe place. Like you it is special. Advisor, Charles Cole Two glances at our moderator. Accolade 61 Although few people know what the word accolade means, many students at Luers spend long hours trying to convey a message of unity and organization through this word chosen as our yearbook title. Even though the 75-76 staff was small, the job got done. This was a building year β the majority were new, inexperienced staff members and photographers. The beginning was tough on everyone, but things began to work smoothly after a few months of Wed- nesday night meetings. Editor-in-chief Beth Braun handled decisions as they came up, assigned sections, proofed pages and sent them to the yearbook com- pany. Carol Nolan, the assistant editor, spent many hours on underclass pages and the clubs section. Mr. Cole put in his share of hours too. Often ac- companied by his son, Mr. Cole helped proof pages and was the overseer of everything. The staff worked extra hard to make this yearbook special for you. We hope you like it. Even though I couldn ' t wait until this moment all year, now that it ' s here I don ' t know what to say. Being editor-in-chief was no picnic, but I ' ll miss it with all my heart. Problems never ceased this year, but even so, we managed. I want to thank Bill Weber for this. We had all new photographers this year, so Mr. Weber kind of took the reins. He put in countless hours of extra work just for us. He is a very unique and special person that we are so very lucky to have with us. I would really like to thank all of the people who stuck with the 75-76 Accolade to the end. They didn ' t quit when the going got tough. It was these people who made the Bicentennial Accolade possible. I would also like to give special recognition to the outstanding artist who designed the cover for the Accolade this year, Joe Anderson. Joe did a wonder- ful job! Mr. Cole, our moderator, gave me the courage to keep on with this six thousand dollar project at times when I was at the bottom of my ladder. He deserves a very special thank you for that. In the two years that I was on the Accolade staff I got to meet and really know a lot of beautiful people. Even though the Pub is a hole, these people made it a beautiful place. In closing, I would like to wish the 76-77 Staff more luck than I had. With Carol Nolan as editor-in-chief, I ' m sure that will be no problem. I had a wonderful time being editor. Thanks to Mr. Weber and my staff I learned more than I can hope to tell. The Accolade, especially this one, will have a very special place with me forever. Happy Bicentennial! Editor-in-Chief Beth Braun 204 Closing
