WAYNE HIGH SCHOOL IS LIKE A GAME OF CHESS FOUR YEARS OF MOVING OVER RANKS AND FILES MATCHING THE CONSTANT CHALLENGE OF CHECK AND CHECKMATE NOW MOVING QUICKLY, NOW SLOWLY WE DO OUR BEST TO USE OUR POWERS WISELY TO WELD MIND AND HEART AND SKILL INTO ONE TEAM BECOMING — EVER BECOMING MORE PERFECT KNIGHTS MORE PERFECT LADIES BUT IN THIS GAME THEY ONLY LOSE WHO DO NOT PLAY AND THE KING WE SERVE H IS NOT ON THE BOARD AT ALL DEDICATION The students of Bishop Luers High School take this opportunity to salute Monsignor William J. Lester. As Superintendent of Schools in the Diocese of Ft. Wayne--South Bend, Msgr. Lester served as diocesan coordinator through the planning and construction of Bishop Luers High School. We owe it largely to his good judgment that we have such a functional building andsuch excellent facilities. Thanks, then, Monsignor, for a beautiful school. We will try always to use It well. In our book, you will always be a Knight ' s Knight. THE MOST REVEREND LEO fUMLEY, D. D. BISHOP OF FORT WAYXE- OUTH BEND Four Years If We Had A Birthday Cake ... it wouldhave four candles on it--or maybe only one. This year, for the first time, we have four classes in our school. It ' s a long way from those first days four years ago when 136 freshmen walked across the mud on narrow wooden planks to a not quite finished building to begin high school as well as the traditions of Bishop Luers. But that was a long teen-age time ago. Here are members of our present classes, and like the cheerleaders at the right, they are up in the air over Luers. The man in front of the chess team is Father Edmund Moore. He is the one who plans the moves and who coordinates students, teachers, curriculum, community, and re- sources into the team which is Bishop Luers High School. It is a compli- cated and taxing game he plays, full of infinite possibilities and unexpec- ted traps. But he plays it well. And anyone who has watched him for the last four years can only say, Here is a master chessman. Our Principal Dedication Our Principal Service Our Principal Generosity Our Principal Fr. Edmund ' Tk. These pictures were taken after the Luers — CC game but they might have been taken on a dozen other occasions. Same people, same rhythms, same problems. Girls dance, boys talk. You know the code. If the music settles down to a slower beat to which a boy might shuffle, then the code forbids girls to dance together. So everybody talks. Oh well, in the meantime fluff your hair and look pretty girls. HE may be watching you. You know our motto: At the hop, hope! The senior class presents Susan Steckheck starring in . . Lester, the Diocesan Superin- tendent of Schools, area Pastors, the fac- ulty, and parents were guests for the occa- sion. Msgr. Lester gave the invocation and Father Edmund presented the awards.
