A French scientist, philosopher, and priest who died in 1955, T eilhard de Chardin, whose thought is quoted throughout this book, attained a vision of an absolute synthesis of science and religion. His thought, based on the undeniable fact that a profound and general trans- formation is taking place in the consciousness of man, expands to a vision of man evolving towards higher biological and spiritual states. Teilhard sees this whole process of evolution directed towards the ultimate reality of Christ, the Omega, the supreme embodiment of Love. It is by Christ's animating influence, Love, that all of our activities, seemingbf trivial or profound become a part of a whole, evolving existence.
