The simple, but sturdy one-story buildings opposite this page depict the modern trend in architecture which our school has followed as it expands and expands, and expands. BHS has steadily expanded from an area no larger than a small city lot to an area now covering nearly five blocks. The Bishop school system was organized by F. Z. Bishop, founder of the town, in 1911. The school campus plant consisted of a three-room frame building. There were 16 pupils and two teachers. Through the years it has grown to what it is today -- a campus covering approximately five city blocks, an enrollment of approxi- mately 1500, and a teaching staff of 88. The men who work diligently for little or no recognition are our friends and neighbors -- the members of the school board. They are in a large way responsible for the attractive school campus as it is shown in the picture on the left. Here we assemble daily to study, to live, and to learn. It is here we gather the knowledge that will guide us through our future lives. May we always remember these years as the initial stepping stones that guide us Through the Swirl of Time. History plays a vital role in helping students become more aware of their ever-changing world. The History Department of BHS offers three courses of study: World History, American History, and Civics. Through group projects, class discussions, films, and research papers, students develop a clear understanding of the American way of life and a realization of the rights and duties of a citizen in a democratic society. ' World History helps the student understanding of the peoples of the world - their points of view, customs, and ways of life. These are the re- wards of running track. Track is an individual sport rather than a team effort. Each man competes against himself to turn in a better performance--to do his best, This requires stamina, determination, and strength of character as well as body, 133 A Sure Sign of Spring A familiar sight at BHS since February was 30 boys running around, around, and around the track. This vigorous training resulted in Mike Kieschnick and Ronny Adair going on to the regional meet in Kingsville on April 20, where Ronny placed 6th in the hundred-yard dash. L 'Mari . sis-4-Jzfww.
