M, Ab-Q , 1953 Shield Heelan High School Sioux City, Iowa Iwas hom of a dream . . . The dream was born of love And love springs From the hearts of good men Good men are found in Sioux City: Fathers of families. Fathers of parish families. Love set them to dreaming: Dreaming of their children. Dreaming of preparing them For the ordeals of An uncertain future. We need a school. they said. Men of action . . . they built one. Sounds easy . . . not quite. It took money to build A good one . . . the Ask parents . . . they know. Ask them why they waited for That new living room set . . . Or little brother's bicycle Or the family car. Ask Father Iones . . . he knows. Ask him why he didn't build His new church . . . B Or parish school. He was going to build it. God knows he needed it, but He ioined other men Who dreamed of me. They sa ed: T in , planning, fighting T ugh red tape, restrictions Loans. interest, headaches They a ed . . . tGuidance, you knowl T e had never tried this before. Practice was begun about the middle of September and the season opened officially when the Crusaders defeated Canton on October third. This victory was followed by a one point loss to East on October tenth. The following week the Crusaders trav- eled to Des Moines where they were defeated by a powerful Dowling squad. The excitement of Homecoming weekend was qulclrened by a victory over Sioux Falls on November first. On November seventh and eleventh, the last two games of the season were played, the first with Dowling and the second with Central. Both resulted in defeats for the Heelanites. On November sixteenth. when the Sioux City Iournal published the names of the All-City Team. Fay Peck was one of the boys selected. Iohn Cahill and Iames Brown won recognition on the second All-City Team. ,ar I Fay Peck, I-leelan's representative on the first team All City Squad. .
