Hzztlzcr ,Ceo ,Ccuz ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL FATHER LEO LENZ, assistant principal of Catholic High School, graduated from Trinity College in 1937, attended St. Paul Seminary, St. Paul, Minnesota, and was ordained May 22, 1941. His first assign- ment was as assistant pastor at Sacred Heart Parish, Templeton, Iowa, where he remained until coming to Heelan High. q -111 1,1111-1 -,.-...---- KL 13601 Msgr Sugcmf IC mm' PRINCIPAL DOUBLE HONORS were bestowed on Father Eugene Kevane, when Pope Pius XII elevated him to the rank of a domestic prelate with the title of Monsignor, and Most Rev. Joseph M. Mueller, Bishop of Sioux City appointed him principal of the new Heelan High School. On Wednesday, Novem- ber 23, 1949, Msgr. Kevane was invested in the purple robes of a domestic prelate by his Excellency, Bishop loseph M. Mueller. In the person of Msgr. Kevane, the Holy Father gave thanks to all the priests and people of Sioux City for laying the toun- dations of Heelan High School. To recOQ'nize the splendid work and generosity of these people, Rome honored one who helped to inspire and guide their good will, charity, and sacrifice in a noble cause. This was Rome's way of saying thank you . 'QL R'l REV MSGR EUGENE KEVANE was bom in Storm Lake where he attended elementary and high school Following graduation from Loras College Dubuque he attended the Gregorian University in Rome He was ordained in Rome in 1938 by Most Rev Ralph Hayes former rector of the North Amer ican College in Rome and now Bishop of Davenport Following his ordination Father Kevane was assist ant pastor at St Thomas Church in Emmetsburg and came to the Cathedral of Epiphany in 1939 as assistant In 1943 he enlisted in the Air Corps as a chaplain and after three years of overseas duty was honorably discharged with the rank of manor He returned to the Cathedral Parish in 1946 and has since been occupied with the erection of the new Heelan Catholic High School
