The recipients best represent outstanding qualities of character and ability. Award is based on Courage, Leadership, Honor, Service, Scholarship, which if cultivated, result in better citizenship. Awards were given on Honors Day, May 29, 1959. Explorer Award 7. :iv-i ' w,','..' . , , xv. Highest Explor er Award The Silver Award is presented to Post 333 members byW. D. Lawrence, Jr., representing Rose District at Court of Hon- or, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Coun- cil 1502 on February 12, at the CK of C Hall. Re- cipients are Qleft to rightl Mr. Joseph Matachin- skas, Post Advisor, Ronald Driggers, John Olsen, Mike Francis, Post President. Voice of Democracy Carol George merited second place award for her essay, 1 Speak for Democracy, in Voice of De- mocracy, a Youth's Leadership Program of the National Association of Broadcasters, Electronic Industries Association. Conte s t chairman, Dana W. Adams, presented the awards at Tyler Junior College, November 20, 1958.

To merit membership in the club the recipients, inad- dition to scholarship, they must rneasure up to the standards of good citizenship, cleanliness, thrift, courtesy, loyalty, honesty, service, dependability, sportsmanship, and leadership Awards werepre sented by Mr. Zack Griffith ptimist Club , Bill Whitworth Contest Chai rman of the Tyler Optimist Club, presents the first place award to Pat Cooney for the Optimist Club oratorical con- test. John Maher, extreme left, was presented the third place award. The event took place at the Blackstone Hotel on February 26. atholic Theatre Bert Saleh was awarded a blue ribbonfor best acting in the play Pa r ty Line in the National Catholic Theatre Conference held at University of Dallas, February Zl, and spon sored by the Genedward Players of Saint Edward Academy. Others in Party Line were John Maher, Carolyn O'Byrne, Mary Scheuerman, Barbara Ramsdell, Dan Spiller, and Joyce George. ii
