He looked upon us as individuals, Not as statistics. He depended upon us. l call upon all of you to join us ln a journey to the new frontier. He showed us through his keen intellect The challenges the future holds. He anticipated our acceptance. The torch has been passed To a new generation of Americans. He caused the spark that started the blaze. The fire whose glow can truly light the world. He opened for us a door to the future We, the Seniors, dedicate our yearbook to him . . . BEFORE US STAND THE DOORS THROUGH WHICH WE MUST PASS. THE DOOR IS A BARRIER ONLY TO THE PERSON WHO DOES NOT POS - SESS THE KEY. IT IS THE TEACHER THE COUNSELOR, THE ADMINIS- TRATOR, WHO MUST PROVIDE THE KEYS TO THE LIMITLESS ROOMS OF KNOWLEDGE. THEY GUIDE OUR EXPLORATIONS AND LEAD US IN THE RIGHT DIRECTIONQ THEY HELP US TO AVOID UNNECESSARY MIS- TAKES AND TO DEVELOP OUR INTELLECTQ THEY SET US ON A PATH TO A PROMISING FUTURE. s 1. I ii,- fff '5i?fjgf A441 MAJ if Sgigii fx! Jag HIS EXCELLENCY Tl-IE MOST REV. ROBERT J. DWYER BISHOP OE RENO For the last decade, Nevada has been in the company of the fastest growing states in the Union. Led by the Most Rev. Robert J. Dwyer, Bishop of Reno, the Church in Nevada has kept pace with this rapid growth. Throughout the state, the new churches stand as emerging signs of vitality and growth. New con- vents, rectories, parish halls, grade schools, clerical orders-- all of these give evidence to a bishop whose faith has enabled him to surmount difficult obstacles. Perhaps the most popularized structures within the past decade have been the diocese's two high schools, Bishop Gorman and Bishop Manogue. Together the two high schools enroll nearly 1500 students. Under the leadership of Bishop Dwyer, the Church has progressed with a persistency seen through the centuries. Her plans for the future are no less remarkable. .av .. ,., w FATHER ROBERT TEED, C. MARTHA SNOY Assistant-Librarian MRS. PAULINE STAFFORD Secretary MRS. I-IALLIE O'CONNOR Accountant Rene Henry Troxel was born at Willows, California, on the 11th day of December 1945. After graduating from the Willows Elementary School in june, 1959, he began his Freshman year at Bishop Gorman High School and received his diploma in May, 1963. A natural born artist, he began winning prizes for his art work in grade school and continued doing so during his high school years. Not satisfied with merely developing his talent for a future career, he insisted upon making use of it in most practical ways wherever he could benefit others. Rene' Troxel's span of life was brief but in that short time he accomplished what it takes others long years to do. Religion was for him no mere formula but a way of life. His interests were unlimited, his aims, high. He cheerfully gave of himself. his talent, his time, to those around him. As he accepted his life, so must he have returned it--thankfully, zestfully, and unselfishly. I5 WE ENTER INTO A ROOM FILLED WITH PEOPLE-A GROUP IN WHICH EVERY INDIVIDUAL PLAYS A VITAL PART. WE LEA.RN, NOT A.LONE, BUT WITH OTHERS-THROUGH LIVELY DISCUSSION, THROUGH UNEXPECTED QUESTIONS, AND THROUGH CHAL- LENGING EXCHANGE OF IDEA.S. WE WORK TOGETHER FOR THE BENEFIT OF ALL. The principal organization in the school-the trunk from which all others branch-is the Student Council. Interested primarily in serving the stue dents and representing them to the authorities, the Student Council achieves its purpose through coordinating activities which involve the school as a whole. President Gary Fowler, who brought experience and leadership to his office, together with a high scholastic standing and a well-rounded extra- curricular participation, commanded the respect of the Student Body. With the assistance of his fellow officers, he brought to a successful close his term in office. Thursday Night Student Council Meeting. Under the cry the gym shook with the cheers of an optimistic student body, a reminiscing alumni, and the determined Gorman gridiron crew. The enthusiasm was equalled only by that shown at the game when the Gaels crushed the Miners 39-6. Gorman's Gaels going with junior varsity players along with the varsity squad were sparked by Mike Lewis, Bob Fowler and Harold Morse. Lewis ran for two touchdowns . Morse passed for two more, one of them good for 67 yards to Fowler who scored one more touchdown on a 45 yard gallop. Gorman had two more touchdowns called back on penalties. The Gaels amassed 455 yards total offense 305 yards on the ground, to a total of 186 Richard Costello rips through the shield and the game begins. yards for Manogue. Both Lewis' touchdowns were scored in spectacular plays. Lewis took a Manogue punt early in the opening period and raced 95 yards for a Gorman score. Later in the fourth quarter, Lewis intercepted a pass and ripped off 72 yards for another touch- down. The Gaels topped off the game with a final touchdown with seven seconds remaining in the game. Mike Stafford and Steve Ashcraft scored the other Gorman touchdowns. Hey fellows, can I play too? This should not be so, however, for from the ranks of the Freshmen basketball team, come the future champions of the sport. Coach Stueber has done well by Gorman and his squad this year, as proven by an excellent season record and good sportsmanship. In the years to come, these same Freshmen will represent Gorman as a polished basket- ball team, one Worthy of praise. After a thrill-packed season Gorman's Gaels found themselves in a four way tie for first place with Las Vegas, Rancho, and Western. The toss of the coin gave Gorman a fourth place berth in the tournament, and the Gaels opened zone play in a game with Basic, and Won by a score of 69-62. Led by Larry Shindler's 23 pts., along with 13 each for Frank Kott and Pat McGroarty and l2 for Doug Du Charme, the Gaels ran over the Rams, 62-53. Gorman put together a torrid fast break and overcame a Rancho full court press to gain a berth not only in zone finals but also in State. Saturday, March 7, Bishop Gorman played for Southern Zone Championship in the Gaels' first year of 'AA' Competition. Their opponent was to be powerful Western in the Convention Center. For each of us the past has shaped the key That will permit our passage through this door But may we never lose the memory Of all the happy times that went before. As we pass through to walk our separate ways, We hope this wondrous door remains ajar, And never fully closes on these days That helped to make us what we really are. George E.
