in the very first year of its infancy, 1957, we discovered something very wonderful about our school -' its gilt ol: song. Lilie all newly-found talents, we wished to exercise it immecliately. VVilh a no-sooner-said-than-done aiacrity, Sister Ana- stasia, OSST.. had formed us into a Glee Club that even then, though only in its formative year, was prepared to malce public appearances in con- junction with two school plays, The following year marlced a truly great event in our musical career, as dressed in formal attire and singing our ioveliesl, we were privileged to present another first at Bishop Egan -- a school musicale. Under the direction of hflr, John Bunnell we sang with all our hearts for we wanted everyone to love these songs as we: uselections from Sigmund Rom- bergu, Schubert? Ave Nlariaf' and our own Alina ivlateru which rang out that night for rhi- lirst time. Yes, music does have charms. And so. this year. with Father Canice, our moderator, and Wir. Zenone, our director, we hope to sing more Ncharminglyn than ever before. Bishop Egan has accomplished the almost unhe- lievahle, hy producing three separate bands, each worthy of distinction and deserving of the highest commendation. For hard work, self-sacrifice, and school spirit the students comprising these groups are unparalleled. Organized and sparked through the combined efforts of Father Frederic, T.O.R. fmoderatorl. lxflr. Kenneth Lesniclc. Band Director, and Nlr. Vvilliam Quilty. Drill Nlaster, the Nlarching Band captured Five trophies during the i950-l960 season. Numbering approximately eighty-five instru- ments, the Concert Band has succeeded in captur- ing the hearts of all Bishop Egan music-lovers, while to the inimitable rhythmic Dance Band goes the distinction of having brought the very first music award home to the school.
