A yellow sapphire set in gold adorns Dwenger ' s first class ring. The ring, fraught with symbolism, includes a chi rho on a sun depicting the spiritual world, and a globe the material world. A drop of blood signifies the Precious Blood order of which Bishop Joseph Dwenger was a member. The dove, surmounting the fleur de lis, repre- sents the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ and the book of knowledge, the academic aspects of Dwenger.
