His relationship with the class of '79 and with Bishop Dunne can best be described by the terminology he often uses to teach his literature classes - the romantic triangle. 7' DEDICA TI ON 'aff At the top of the triangle is Mr. C, at the left corner, the BDI-I S community, at the right corner, the senior class of 1979. Mr. Chas always given himself to the school totally and unseQ'ishly. To our class particularly, he has given spirit and unity in times when we needed it most with a smile, a laugh, and his famous chuckle Because of his patience, the class of 1979 has learned many valuable lessons. We, the seniors of 1979, cannot possibly give to him all that is in our hearts. We will try to say thanks by dedicating this yearbook to him. With great affection, we hope to close the romantic triangle and always return to Mr. Cocca those lessons which he has tried to make a permanent part of us. For the first time, the world has experienced three papacies in one year. Pope Paul VI began his ministry in 1963. During his ministry, the ecumenical council Vatican II was held. On August 6, 1978, Pope Paul Vfs ministry ended with his death. The Pope 's successor was Cardinal Albino Luciani, the Patriarch of Venice. Cardinal Luciani took the name of his two immediate predecessors and became Pope fohn Paul' I Yet the Pope's ministry lasted only thirty-four days - one of the shortest in history. Un October 16, 1978, the papal conclave elected the first non-Italian Pope in 458 years, Cardinal Karol Wojtyla of Poland. Cardinal Woityla took the name of his predecessor Pope John Paul I, becoming Pope fohn Paul 11, the two hundredth and sixty- fourth pope since St. Peter. In Pope John Paul 1175 inaugural speech, he acknowledged our common willingness to establish closer and closer relationships among ourselves and to overcome the divisions inherited from the past. 7 7 W e all will pray for Pope John Paul throughout his ministry. CIIANCURY OFFICE mlllllll fDiocese of Tallas y A W..,mm.. Spring, I 979 Dear Graduates: I congratulate you, the graduating Class of 1979, as you complete your studies at Bishop Dunne High School. For some of you, the time .spent at Bishop Dunne will serve as a stepping stone to further studies. For others, this will mark the end of your formal education. These young men were outstanding in tournament play, as well. They brought to Dunne trophies from the Waxahachie Invitational Tour- ney, Knights of Columbus Tourney, and Consolation at the prestigious Dr. Pepper Tournament against AAAA competition. Their most important accomplishments, however, were to attain the two goals set at the begin- ning of the year. These were to win the district and state championships. The Falcons not only won both, but won them with style and class.
