This rebirth manifested itself in a burst of creativity which gave a new impetus to leaning and to living, and a new faith in the potential of man. If we look closely at our own time, we can see parallels to that earlier revival. As Dunne moves swiftly into the 7O's, we see here those earlier characteristics - that same energy, that same creative impulse, that same humanitarian impulse. ln our unique and very modern way, we at Dunne are immensely involved and dedicated to the spirit of Renaissance. At Dunne that infi- nite admiration for man's capabilities and a faith in his willingness to create a beauti- ful world are reflected in the efforts toward community service - and in a deep commit ment to God and to our fellow m'an. They are also evident in the earnest quest for self-knowledge and in the joy of shared experiences. Gln, ' . if E, ' T Yi: , Dunne occasionaly sends various of its members far from the home ground in search of insights which will provide them with a better understanding of the world in which they live. Travels this year included tours of Western and Eastern Europe, and also involved shorter fielid trips to such areas as the Arbuckle Mountains of Oklahoma. Students also found that much could be gained through a re-discovery of their own campus grounds and its facilities. Flexible modular scheduling replaced the old block system of time. Classes now met at alternating times for a variety of time periods. Resource periods were established for out-of-class course work. Such areas as the auditorium, cafeteria, and audio-visual rooms were utilized for large group instruction. Senior theology students left campus to work at various centers in the Dallas area, and students at large frequently enjoyed classes held outdoors on the campus lawn. Introduction - 9 1 , an . The spring band concert highlighted a group that in not quite three years had grown into an award winning organization, and the school halls and grounds everywhere reflected the artistry and skills of our many students. 1. Y v I 11 -, Introduction - I 1 I ,im -- zf gs 11 L 1X3Y.'uU lF ,,, Dunne's Renaissance sings in the apprecia tion of a moment's contemplation of a book, a building, or a leaf. It shouts of energy and joy, and finds beauty every- where. We at Dunne, in our finest mom- ents, are in easy accord with the 16th century character who finds tongues in trees, books in running brooks and good in everything. Introduction 13 A teacher affects eternityg he can never tell where his influence stops. These words, spoken by Henry Brooks Adams seventy years ago, certainly applyto Mrs. Treppendahl. As she leaves Dunne this year, her influence will be left behind, She has produced three ' yearbooks and has been a source of in- spiration to students and faculty. Her devotion and love will continue to guide each of us in the future. In an attennpt to retLu'n some of the concern she has shown toward us, we gratefully dedicate the 1972 Mitre to Mrs. Shirley Treppen- dahl. v 'Cl' lfgQ li 'kk'5 x', Nh X 1 1 X E gay' - ?
