To the PARENTS of all Dubois Men we happily dedicate this Yearbook-in earliest recognition and heartful appreciation of their manifold sacrifices through the years to make possible the physical, mental, and moral development of their sons. Our graduation from a Catholic high school is due to their full realization of the importance of a true and complete education which fixes our gaze upon Almighty God, fashions o-ur character, creates good citizenship, and prepares ,us for the business of life. NVhatever We are and Whatever we shall strive to become we owe ultimately to the zealous and watchful guidance of our fathers and mothers. It is our fervent wish that the Holy Family-pattern and model for all Christian families-smiles kindly upon them for a job well done. ki F5 I . X .-F1573 i ,O . K K2 Pg X is ' x A if , 39 v-yy.. A real bright shine, sonny boys. ?mM 71044 On the academic ladder leading to the august heights of seniorship, the Freslnnan occupies the lowest rung. This little fellow is straight from the nursery and all set to girt himself for the 'igreat adventuref, He arrives the first day with his notebook and new schoolbag. These accessories and his blue serge suit give him the appearance of a little businessman. At first he is a bit fear- ful of the strange building and the un- familiar faces but when he overhears the Seniors glibly discussing parabolas, hyper- bolas, and other scientific matters he is only terrified. Looking around the yard he spots the juniors nonchalantly playing bas- ketball and he says to himself, They must have nerves of steel, not to be worrying about this coming yearln f Heads of woodv would be a more accurate appraisal but that doesn't occur to him.j He looks about again and spots, to his horror, an isolated group leering with satanic grins in his di- rection. No one need tell him they are Sophomores and that he had better steer clear! But time moves on and soon our little Frosh is up to his neck in deelensions, radical signs, and foot candles. By the middle of the semester he has lost much of his shyness and has determined to put aside lollypops forever. By june he's a Wee hag- gard but a whole lot wiser-in fact, hels a Sophomore! S S444 The Sophomore is a Spf-fit-5 apart. His blue serge suit has been disrarded for oversized raineoats, loajers, luminous soeks, and char- treuse ties. He swaggers with an air of su- periority and looks eoldly upon the Freshman as though measuring him for a gelatin inold to'be dipped into a tub of sulphuric arid. Ile is now an experienred old veteran of a full year who deigns to hang on to sehool life only that he might one day be transported to the green and cultivated valley inhabitated by the carefree Juniors. f Fwffff Hmm For the Junior the novelty of high school life has worn off and he is left with neither the e.rpertam'y of the Freshmarl nor the zingggggg of the Sophomore. .-1 shell of his former enthusiastir self, he stumbles about the sehool in his worn Dubois sweater with the zip and antiripation of a tired night- watehznan. In all his spare time he plays basketball Io relax his poor strained brain. The Sophs Consider him an absentrninded genius and follow him around to gather stray bits of wisdonzg surh as, Rhubarb does not grow in winter, and Sashay la fame, lad. Saaae Sudan The Senior is at the top of the ladder sealing the heights. Suave, sophisticated, scintillating, man-of-the-world, he is often seen sporting a gold-rimmed cigarette holder and passing out Parliaments to the faculty. His mode of dress has changed considerably. Neat pin-striped suits adorn his physique, with plenty of padding to do justice to his shoulders. His speech is en- hanced with flowing sonorous phrases like, Please cease your superfluous, supercilious statements, and The ambiguity of your remarks tends to show your less than in- finitesimal mindf' He spells the scho0l's name Dubois, not DuBois,' and he pro- nounces it with a pure Gallic bwa. He is completely removed from the common lot of undergraduates and tolerates only the faculty. All stand in awe of him and ad- dress him by invitation only. Upon gradua- tion, he and his fellows customarily leave to the school some slight memento, such as, Class of 1952 incised in the stone front of the building in letters three feet high. Some go to college-and the cycle begins all over again! JAMES COMISKEY '52 Revised and reprinted from the Dubois ALERT cz ' Front Row: T. Patvrnn, D. Smith, K. Mah-y, Rav. john Kowsky, E.
