There's nothing so still as the library where every silent book seems to hush even the swish of the drapes. But it's not a silence of deathg it's the silence that cloaks the great deeds of men. Books, instead of being lifeless, static things, have been man's most dynamic, most explosive force in the world, By reading a book, a person can soar off to unknown worlds, or sink back into the pages of history to recapture the thrill or the shock of events in past ages. We base our knowledge on the work of our forefathers, thus reliving, through reference and research, the hardships and accomplishments of man down through the centuries. We build and progress on what we have learned. A library not only serves as a helpful source of information but also pro- vides unlimited relaxation. Sister Electa's contagious love of books and her ability to lure even the most hesitant into reading make our library a place where you're a stranger only once. LIBRARY

To hear the Sound of a human voice '... Sometimes, we suppose, supervisors of restless study halls might he wishing just the opposite. But a voice put to good purpose is a wonderful thing. There's mystery about speech, since man alone of all creation has the power to express his thoughts in words. Here at DB, speech is elective for all classes: freshies and sophs have an introduction to it in two periods a weekg juniors and seniors, a full credit course. Competitive speech and dramatics are extra-curricular activities. Speech and dehate teams meet for a series of tournaments throughout the year.
