Why study the language that we've spoken all our lives and should know by now? Why read poetry, plays, and stories when we intend to spend our lives in the business world or in a laboratory? Simply because to know literature is to know the minds of men. Any- thing that will help us understand people is necessary in life. And from poetry, plays, and stories we learn of life. Whether it warns us or inspires us, creates happiness or sadness, gives a moral or prompts a laugh, literature gives us an insight to the workings of the minds and hearts of people. Then, too, unless we can make others understand usg unless we can get our ideas across clearly, we can never win a point or make a sale or become a success. So we study grammar. We learn the everyday usage and the fine points of writing and speaking and are happy to express our inner thoughts satisfactorily. Our chances for happiness in life would be very meager without a language. 'I7 l Ni o E GLISH

Many of the girls were shoeked the first day of Class hy the varied roles a good homemaker must fill: culinary expert, professional financier, recreation leader, home nurse, and interior decorator. The phrase just a housewife was definitely ruled out as the answer to a wife and mother's oeeupation. The realization that all the girls would someday he molding small, helpless creatures into good Christian men and women requires much more than being just a housewife. Homemaking is really an awareness of the combination of Christian living and family life to help the girls get a head start on experience as a teacher. lf ata, My f ff y , i i 5 A Q i s 1 i ,Q 45 4. The hearts and mintls of all nations are very much tlifferent and yet so alike.
