OEOICAUOH I0 Louis William Valentine Dubourg born on the isle of Santa Domingo, boy ofthe sunny Carribean, in 'l766. Lisping child hungry for knowledge sailed to Qld France to the home of his fathers, studied in France the faith of all ages. Louis, the priest, a Sulpician Father, taught in Old France the boys of the order, teaching as Christ the love of each other. Louis, the priest, the Christian, the teacher, threatened with death by the French Revolution escaped to the coast disguised as a minstrel. Louis, the priest, a restless missioner, carried his torch to far America, worked where he could. He taught the boys of St. Mary's in Baltimore, gathered up coins to build her cathedral, helped Mother Seton to found her order. Father DuBourg in l8l2's war days was sent to the land of Louisiana, a land that stretched from the Gulf to Canada, reached from the Rockies to the Father of Waters. Anointed in Rome with the hand of Christ's Vicar, anointed as bishop in 1815, Bishop DuBourg came to St. Louis. Bishop of Indians, travelers, traders, bishop of settlers for from the home- land, Louis DuBourg preached with power, Louis DuBourg taught of the Father, brought to the Indians the Jesuit missioners, brought to St. Louis the Sacred Heart Madames, . built in the woods the Vincentian seminary, school for priests at Perryville. Cathedral built on the shore ofthe river, Jesuits teaching the first in their college, Bishop Rosati his co-adjutor - Louis DuBourg wearied with journeying, Louis DuBourg resigned from his post. Louis DuBourg, eleven years bishop, labored in France for seven years more, died there in i833 gave up his valiant soul to his God.
