Student government initiated by aeeressive S.C |he Student Council was well into high gear by the time the beginning of the school year rolled around, starting off with a leader- ship workshop in August. This workshop was the first of two workshops the Student Council co-ordinated for students in leader- ship positions in the school. By the end of September, the combined Student Councils of Bishop David and Angela Merici had successfully completed the annual Field Day. Before the excitement of the Field Day wore off, the members of the Student Council were busy making plans for the freshman Get Acquainted party in October and their expression of student leadership through Student Government Week November 3 through 7, 1975. Student Government Week began with the signing and reading of the Proclamation of Student Government Week. Other activi- ties during the week included freshman class officer elections, a club orientation program, student privilege day, and a day in which the students ran the school, both administrative- ly and as teachers in various classrooms. Other activities sponsored by the Student Council throughout the year included a canned food drive at Thanksgiving, a sopho- more fun night in December, a door deco- rating contest for Christmas, a student ex- change program in the spring, and the co- ordination of the class elections at the end of the year. In keeping with the spirit of this year ' s Student Council ' s efforts to tackle new experiences for the benefit of the stu- dent body, they co-sponsored, with the N.H.S., a new educational experience called Try-It-Week in March. In order to keep students informed, the Student Council put an information board in the cafeteria on which they kept a calendar of events and articles. The organization also put coming events on the large sign board at the entrance to the school. Our focus on the bicentennial commemoration was completed with Ron Borders ' creation of the traditional bicentennial symbol which was attached to the top of this activity board, crt TBD VS PRP THUR r 8TH GRADE ENTRANCE EXAM SAT JAN 31 Perched atop the Student Council signboard in front of school, Ron Borders ' bicentennial creation is a symbol of the spirit of ' 76. 62 STUDENT COUNCIL Addressing the Student Council leadership workshop participants, vice-presi- dent of the Student Council, Phil Mingus, gets them off on the right foot. !
